Hey guys, What digicams do you have? And do you like them? Just something to point and shoot. MPEG would be nice, but just a camera would be fine. I'd like to spend around $250. tia.
The last camera I bought was a Fuji Finepix 3800 about 3 months ago. I really like it and I got a great deal. I got it at www.buy.com for 269.99 in a sale, plus I used a 15$ off coupon and got a 60$ rebate. I also opted for a 128mb Xd Memory card at target.com where I used another 10% off coupon. http://www.epinions.com/Fuji_FinePix_3800_Digital_Camera_Digital_Cameras
I'm going to get another camera for Christmas and am going to sell mine. It's the 2.1 mega pixel version of this. I paid 400. for it new but will make you a deal within your budget.
You might want to check out Gateway. They have a 4.1 megapixel camera that's selling for $199 after rebate. Not sure about the quality though. It's probably made by a Taiwanese OEM.
I always tell people that if you can buy it through work you can ask CDW or other companies to sell it to you at cost. They will do it as a favor for continued business almost every single time. That's how I got the coolpix 995 for almost $500 cheaper at CDW. It was a steal. All you have to do is ask.
I have the same camera I think -- DSC-P31 I got it for $199 last September. I bought it because it was easy to use. The pictures it takes are not bad, but it has a lot of difficulty in low-light situations. If you don't use the flash the pic is too dark, but with the flash the pic is washed out and overly bright. I'm going to stick with it for at least another year, but at some point I'll move on. I think the most important thing in buying a camera is that it's easy for you to use -- that's usually not the first thing that people think of when they buy something, but it's usually the most important. Go to the store and try some cameras and see what feels easy for you to use.
You might want to read some reviews on these Sony DSC-P72 Cyber-shot (3.2MP 3X Optical Zoom Lens) $299.98 plus $30 rebate = $269.98 THIS BUNDLE COMES WITH FREE Lexar 64MB Memory stick, and Dazzle Memory Reader/Writer PowerShot A70 Digital Camera (3.2MP, 2048x1536, 3x Opt, 16MB) $259 + S/H Samsung Digimax 350s 3.2MP 3x Optical Zoom $199 + S/H -- droxford
Also, I suggest that you wait until January or February to buy a digital camera. Last year, my mother-in-law bought a Sony digital camera for her hubby, and was angered to see the same camera selling for $200 less only two months after Christmas. -- droxford
And it gets good reviews from cnet http://reviews.cnet.com/Sony_Cyber_Shot_DSC_P72/4505-6501_7-20851317.html?tag=dir -- droxford
(at the risk of beating a dead horse) you can get that sony camera without the bundle at Best Buy for $269, and then the $30 rebate takes the camera price down to $239 with free shipping. You'll have a little extra dough for accessories. -- droxford
Sony makes great TV's and electronics, but Im not too impressed with the cameras. Id go with one of the newer Cannon's or Nikon's CoolPix. My buddy does professional work with one of the $600 CoolPix cameras and always gets professional crisp shots (lots of cool features too.) I believe they have one in the $300 range as well.
I just want to say thanks for the responses! Kinda amazing that a bunch of strangers would help a man out. AB, I'm looking for something w/ at least 3.1 MP. I appreciate the offer though. After some research, I think I'm going to do some more research on the Sony DSC-P8. It uses the Li battery, and does some decent MPEG-4 video. Even though Drewdog dislikes it, I'm a bit of a brand w****. Thanks again guys.
I own a Pentax Optio S4, and I love it. I keep it in this case: **NOTE: Image quality suffered due to modification for web use. I forgot to use the macro mode, too (yes, I'm an idiot). Smallest, lightest, full-featured camera you can currently buy. It's ALWAYS in my pocket, and within 2 seconds, it's ready to take a pic or a movie. It's got loads of manual controls, too. When I get a minute, I'll try to host a cool time-lapse movie I took while at Disney World.
Canon A70 all the way. It's the highest rated camera in your price range, and the finest entry level camera on the market. Please pretend someone didn;t suggest a Gateway camera to you. They're complete piecers, if you know what i mean.
I got me the Casio QV-R40 a few months ago, and I am quite satisfied. Only $290 at Sam's Club for 4 megapixels and 3x optical zoom... and it's only 3.5 x 2.4 x 1.5 inches (aka fits in your pocket easy).
