I'm the same way but I will expand that even farther by saying that I can't stand watching "dumb basketball" and this team has been doing it for quite some time.

It is time to blow this team up because we are getting nowhere with what we have currently in place (keep Yao but everyone else is fair game to be traded).

This Rox team has become unwatchable.

And I blame JVG for it.

Is playing ugly what it takes to win? NO! A team can certainly play defense while score a lot of points at the same time. In fact, all the great teams do that.

I, for one, would take a 100-120 loss over a 70-90 loss every day.

I truly begin to question JVG's Xs and Os. It seems all he ever tells the players is to go out and play their butts off. How can we call the players dumb when that's all they hear from their coach?

Nero: I feel your pain. I watched it to the bitter end. There was no joy in Mudville, despite fair refereeing and despite a gift of two points to Alton Ford on a "goal-tended" airball. (Incidently, Ford looked pretty good.)

I love this team, and I have rooted for the Rockets through thick and thin -- I even predate the John Lucas cocaine fiasco. Something -- and I don't know exactly what -- but something needs to be done to make our horse run rather than limp around the NBA track.

i have been watching the rockets since like 89-90 when i was 8 and pretty much never missed a game since 93-94 (whether by tv, radio, or game chat) but last night (and i think during spurs game #2) i actually found myself just worn down and not caring for the first time ever. watching the minnesota game thinking, well we're down 13, jvg can't coach his way out of a wet paper sack on offense so this one's pretty much over and there seems to be no intensity, no emotion, i don't give a crap. now luckily i had plans to go with friends to see a movie right after halftime, otherwise i would've been forced to say i turned the channel too, because i'm almost certain i would've turned it. in the past morbid curiosity sometimes even kept me hanging on, but no more (and amazingly this thread just popped right up). i just find it hard to care about this team, and i place most of that on van gundy. it's like we're a team of robots (and ones that aren't very precise) out there. we run around on our defensive rotations almost because it's automatic, not because we have a great desire to play D. we do everything on offense like robots. move over here, give ball to him, now move here, oh wait he's not really open, give ball to him, give ball to him, give ball to him, not open, must force pass, must force pass, turnover. there's no creativity. and plus there's cato making it 5 on 4. jvg has completely neutered steve francis. do we ever let him do his biggest strength, iso'ing? you know when we're not going to yao (which we try way too hard to do for his production) why not let steve break his man down, get to the basket, and get the cheap easy points you get from free throws. or create the open shots that inevitably come from the defense collapsing? now it's just all jumpshots after dribbling off a pick. gee, why are his numbers down and why does the offense suck a lot, gee let me think.

yao, what would be run with letting him shoot some face up jumpers or jumpers off the pick? dude has a nice stroke. but no, post down low, post down low, post down low, not strong enough, post down low, spin move didn't work, not strong enough, post down low, fadeaway 15 footer. geez. on pnr's, let yao fade out, not roll to the basket. it would be beautiful.

cato, stop giving him the green light to shoot anything other than dunks. is it that ****ing hard to figure out jvg? really?

    jj, stop shooting so much.

mo t. don't ever let him pass again. i've never seen anyone get more passes deflected and stolen than him. maybe that's why he never did it all these years.

there were things about rudy that drove me crazy alot. we never had a play out of a timeout. we never guarded the pg on the pnr (and never seemed to have a pnr defense after so many years) and we never got out on the break (and some other things). but i never felt like the team did't give a crap, like i didn't give a crap, like we were out of a game, like the team wouldn't kill themselves to get back in it for rudy, none of that. i feel all of it now.

maybe it will all magically turn around and we can say getting van gundy was good, but so far, no so good. 13-11 vs 14-10 last year i believe and with more talent on the roster. oooh, jvg doesn't lose to the bad teams, oooh we win the close games, oooh he talks so tough, wow. how about win some more games. and how about figuring out how you managed to make our old underperforming offense and make it look like the friggin kings offense in about 6 weeks.

and even though i forgot to talk about haven's quote, since it's already in my post, i'll just say it sums up my feelings nicely.

It seems JVG's rigid BBall philosophy doesn't fit for this team.
Everyone's talents have been restricted in JVG's system.
Knicks' game is alway ugly since 1990s. This ugly style falls on Rockets. Nearly every time we meet a good team, we get a big lose. Is JVG able to survive in wild Western Conference?

In baseball they shake up the lineup to try to get more runs.

Maybe a new starting lineup would be better?

    How about:

    PG SF

    SG Cat

    SF Pike

    PF MoT

    C Yao

Cato and JJ could rotate in next? Maybe if the game started off better offensively the defensive pressure could be brought in next

Nero, I like your post a lot. And I've been trying to differentiate from a homer and a die-hard rockets fan. I think I know the answer now.

The lack of execution existed when Rudy T was the coach. I was happy that JV comes in place of Rudy, hoping the team can finally execute some plays.

The hope seemed in vain since the beginning of this season and I pointed it out even after several wins, and I got bashed by some so-called homers. Where the hell are those people now?

And now you expressed the frustrations that have been with me for a long time out loud, and don't get bashed by those so-called homers. I feel happy for you.

But I will still keep watching the team because I saw some glimpses of hope during the two games with NO and Detroit, which showed the team can execute the plays if they want to.

I've been wanting to see this lineup from day one. They would at least give the Rockets a chance to score.

Jackson and Cato are bench players. They have always thrived as bench players. So bench them!

Here's a perfect slogan that describes the Rox to a T:

    Win Ugly, Lose Uglier :D

    Lucky for you.

I did not turn off the TV until I woke up after this boring game put me to sleep in the second half.

No kidding! The Cavs are an awful team, in the weak conference, and we barely squeak by. Imagine if Pike or JJ had been injured going in, then we would've had a built-in excuse for losing, and would have promptly done so.

Nero, that's one of the better assessments I've seen of this Rockets team. Although I think Yao and JVG deserve the benefit of doubt for the same amount of time we've given to Cutturnover and "Franchise". As for those two, it's becoming readily apparent they don't have the smarts to play winning basketball.

The zone sucks. I hate it. I watched NBA basketball to see alley oops and tomahawk dunks, not jump shots and great defense. Argh!!!!!

Same here. Ugliness...to the point of revulsion. Tonight's game against Cleveland wasn't that much better, either. Without that 12-0 run in the 4th, the Rockets would have lost that one as well, in just as ugly a fashion.
