What made last night's loss so tough for me was the performance Hakeem turned in. This guy is 38 years old! He played 38 minutes last night, and he's coming off of what was thought of as a career-ending situation. 20 points and 11 boards on 9 of 17 from the field. He wants the playoffs so bad. The guy had more energy than Francis and Mobley out there--while those two seem to be wearing down from the grind of a long season, the 38 year-old Hakeem is getting stronger! It's like when he was 28 instead of 38 and he was the only one that ever showed up to play. This one hurts!
Dude was money all night long.....I guess this is one of those games that Steve and Cuttino didnt have circled as an important game on their calendar... ------------------ "Chucky who?" Charles Barkley
Yeah, great point freak. It's amazing how Hakeem is getting stronger considering he has missed the last ten games and played only about 1,400 minutes less than each Mobley and Francis this year. DrewDog, I guess Hakeem circled Feb 19? the trading deadline as the date he'd start playing again. ------------------
While his performance was great, if he gave us only 20 points and 11 rebounds on an important game like this when he was 28 years old, we'd be disappointed. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
Cat and Steve are too young to wear down over the course of the season. They are 26 and 23 years old, respectively. Jason Kidd didn't look worn down to me. Every team in the NBA plays 82 games, and star players play alot of minutes. If they make the playoffs, the fellas are gonna have to play even more minutes and carry a heavier load. Don't make excuses for them. They just had a bad night. And Hakeem's play has been an inspiration. Last night was definitely a flashback game for him. Unfortunately, he may be pricing himself out of Houston's market with his solid late-season play. ------------------ I'm about to boldly go where many men have gone before.
Sam Cassell, Steve and Cuttino are beat up bad. Watch the game. It's impossible not to recognize this. Jason Kidd has learned to conserve his energy, I will admit, but he also plays much more controlled and more importantly closer to the ground than Francis or, a Mobley. This is taking it's toll on them and as soon as Francis learns how to pull up for a jumper more often and our interior men(shawn Marion) start to rebound more they'll endure less pounding on the ribs, face, ankles, and knees. This is not an excuse, though, it's just an arm-chair observation. Oh yeah, Jason kidd got some recent well needed rest for hitting his wife, too. Maybe, next year, Mobes or francis will learn from him too, and slap Lisa Milaskoy. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited March 30, 2001).]
Freak, 38 is not that old. You make it sound like he's 68. Take it from someone who knows ------------------ "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored."- (Aldous Huxley)
Unbelievable performance in a losing cause. According to some (ie. Charles Barkley), 38 may be a bit premature of a number for Dream's age. Rumour has it that he just said he was a certain age so he was illegible to play for the UofH in 1980. If you look closely through his eyes and hear his words, the wisdom the man radiates goes way beyond 38 years. He's freaking 45! As for Cuttino and Stevie -- what can you say. They've carried the team through tough victories and kept them in equally tough losses all season, its just a shame they ran out of gas (or focus) at such an opportune time. Most young stars go through these hurdles before they experience what it takes to win, and the lessons these pups learned this season in battling in play-off atmosphere games should make them that much more prepared next time around.
