Many have tried to find out why Cato lacks the motivation to improve as a basketball player, but they have missed the point. As crazy as it sounds, I believe the root cause is depression. Look at Vin Baker and Brian Williams/Bison Dele. They both suffer from this problem, and it drastically reduced their interest in basketball, and life for that matter. You can even see it in his demeanor. Unless he overcomes his depression, he will never become the player he could be. I wish there was some way we fans could contact him and help him out.

You may be on to something here. BTW, it was Brian Williams, not Brian Grant. But when you factor in his lacking of confidence in himself, according to his quotes, this may be an indicator of depression.

Cato strikes me as someone who doesn't have a passion for playing basketball.

Its almost like he got into basketball because he was taller than other kids and had to be coerced into playing.

    Its a pretty sad sight!

Wasn't he a pretty good baseball player, but he got too big and was forced to switch over to basketball?

He doesn't seem like the type who looks forward to even playing pick up ball in the offseason.

    NO...NO...

I am the one depressed. Cato is a good release for me...a cathartic purge...Trade him,,,,he sucks....trading him would be like a bowel movement of the soul.

ahhhhh....just thinking about it is heightening my spirits again.

Maybe he'll pull a Brian Williams and just walk away from the game. Just slowly back away Kelvin...

Nah...can't be depression cause this B-hole wouldn't ever walk away from that contract. I think he loves getting paid to smoke dope and universally suck on the court.

Maybe we should just stuff his fat a$$ in a trash can and roll him off a cliff. Then we can actually acknowledge that we wasted 42$ Million on a piece of $hit.

That may be true. It's amazing to hear someone go from being so excited to not showing anything in the games.

I think he needs to play himself on NBA Live 2001. Then maybe just maybe he will wake up and realize that he can play.

I think this is a very interesting observation. SOMETIMES, Cato has shown fire and passion and commitment. However, he usually doesn't. And whenever he starts to play well, he gets injured. Let's get him some Prozac!

I'm starting to think that Shandon Anderson has the same problem. His mother's death didn't exactly help his already placid demeanor either. For all of the ignorant posters, this is a serious medical problem, NOT a bad mood, or lazyness. Robert Horry was lazy, but not depressed so he deserved all the flack that he received.

You might be on it SF. He seems like a real headcase. Looks like Port new something RT and CD didn't. Nobody in here would give a flying crap if management hadn't given Cato that nutty deal for his potential. BTW, what has happened that has everyone talking about Cato and weed? Is it just assumed or did he get popped for dope? [IMG]

Just look at him...I have been around dopers since I was 15..(a long time ago) and I KNOW that glassy look, the disinterested attitude..the inability to get his lazy ass up and down the court...if it looks like a doper, walks like a doper and quacks like a doper.........it IS a doper!
