Exactly. I lived in Saudi for a long time. Many people do see this thinking that the USA hates the arab world and it only supports Israel. But I don't see this about helping the Israelies. .....Oil.

HOw is a martyr considered one when he's been cowaring away in a hole in a farm house for months, while his thugs carry out his dirty work with their lives? I thought martyr lead by example? Is there some new definition for it?

That is not Saddam they have in custody...that is some West Virginia Mountain Man. He is so...rugged.

In any event, this was a symbolic (not military and certainly not political) victory today. It more effectively ends the first chapter of the war. I only hope the gloating will be kept to a minimum and progress can actually be made towards solid middle and ending chapters.

I certainly would have rather it been Osama, but this is welcomed nontheless.

To end on a question - to everyone reading - do you think there is anything Saddam can do (provide information, etc.) that could save him from being sentenced to death?

This morning I had literally just rolled out of bed and my roommate banged on my door and yelled "yo Mike! turn on the TV!! THEY CAUGHT HIM!!!!"

I rushed in an excited and sleepy stupor to the tv to turn it on CNN, thinking for sure I was about to see Bin Laden's bullet-ridden carcas on the tube.. and I was somewhat let down that it was Saddam instead.

Did anyone else feel that way? I was literally giddy hoping to see Osama behind bars.. but seeing Saddam in captivity is good too.

For his part, Dean told reporters on the campaign trail in Florida, "I think this is a day to celebrate the fact that Saddam has been captured and we'll have to worry about the campaign later on.

"President Bush deserves a day of celebration. We have our policy differences, but we won't be discussing those today," he added.

The Bible Code II has warned us that he will be caught, moving from location to location in the middle east. It doesn't say when, though.

Something else I wanted to add... to the author of the book, when the attack on the WTC happened, and you seen the fireish blazes up in the sky like a furnace, he seen it as in the Hebrew bible when it mentions of a time of the Devil falling from Heaven and landing on earth, now he is loose (Bin Ladin), and he will not only just knock down a couple of buildings, but also wipe out total cities. Bin Ladin is the anti-christ.

With all due respect, I think the anti-Christ will do a lot more damage than Bid Ladin

I believe the Anti-Christ is supposed to do things like rise among people and make himself a god which people recognize and worship. I don't see Osama Bin Laden doing that.

I wanted to talk about this since I got off work today...WOW!...

This has been a special day and a day in the making of "history" that your children's children will read about in their History books in school...To suggest an answer on rimbaud's question, I'm not sure if (him giving info.) finding WMD should save his life...This man has either indirectly and directly killed, raped, and mutilated thousands upon multiple hundreds of thousands of innocent lives while gleeing, and embracing at terroristic endeavors...

I really thought he would have gone out in glory like his sons...This is almost like finding Hitler, but stopping him while alive...wow, is all I can truly express...

I also want to take this time to remember and praise all those brave soldiers and iraqis who paid the ultimate price to make this happen...+

    Good stuff, drummer2k.

Did you hear that already our "courageous allies" in France & Germany are insisting on an international tribunal (e.g. World Court in Hague)? I certainly hope it's a trial by the Iraqis, for the Iraqis in Iraq; once their legitimate government is up and running. Until then, he should stay under U.S. lock & key.

Hey Dems, does this give Wesley Clark another chance for a 180 degree position change, too?

    Wow.

    Great news.

God bless America, god bless our troops, and god bless George W. Bush, the greatest president in US history.

Fie on you liberals who can't just be happy for this event, at least for one day.

I love how some are bashing the liberals because one or two people, on this board, are making some controversial comments. Good God. I have a feeling that if Clinton were in office, a lot of the conservatives would be doing the same thing. Stop painting with a damn broad brush.

Now, on a different note, is anyone else wondering if Saddam will even be killed? From a political standpoint, it almost makes more sense to keep him alive and send him to something that's worse than the Federal Pound Me In The Ass prison. The martyr talk is pretty serious. Remember, people keep saying that only a nutjob would view him as a martyr. Well, there are a lot of nutjobs that support the head nutjob, so don't rule that out.

I do wish it would have been bin Laden, but I am glad this day is here.

    This was Howard Deans reaction

Speaking to reporters Sunday, Dean said, "This is a great day of pride in the American military, a great day for the Iraqis and a great day for the American people and, frankly, a great day for the administration. I think President Bush deserves a day of celebration. We have our policy differences, but we won't be discussing those today. I think he deserves a day to celebrate as well."

Tomorrow Dean was scheduled to give his first major national security address.

Yeah, Dean handled that about as well as he could have. Dean spent the last week talking trash about the Bush administration and the war in Iraq to the point where he was put in a hell of a bind by this morning's happenings. If he had continued his rhetoric of earlier this week in his media response today I think he might have been done for as a presidential candidate. He was very political in his response today and handled the no win situation about as well as he could have. That's more than I can say for some of the other democratic candidates, especially Wesley Clark who has done 180's with regards to his political platforms on a weekly basis since declaring his candidacy. Personally, I think Lieberman is the big winner on the Dems side today though. It will be very interesting to see what affect the capturing of Hussein will have on all of these democratic candidates, most of which have been very outspoken against the war but find their foots in their mouths today.
