How is it that two schools from the same metropolitan area are playing for the 5A Division I championship? Even if they're in different Regions, wouldn't they meet in the semifinals?

    Someone's band just played T.I.'s 24 :D

And uh good luck to Bobby Reid at Okie State.

North Shore killed The Woodlands 23-7.

Next week, the 5A Division II championship.

Region II only has 2 districts from the Houston Area, 15-5A and 16-5A. The Woodlands is from 15-5A.

Region III consists of all Houston-area teams. Region III guarantees a Houston participant in the Final 4.

So if all things are equal, there's a 25% chance for the Region II rep to be from Houston for the Final 4. Then from there, a 50% chance they win their semfinal and reach the Final, meaning it's down to 12.5% for a Region II team from Houston to reach state.

    :D

There are alot of good teams from district 15, and 16.

My alumni Jersey Village lost to The Woodlands in the opening round 13-14. I think they had them beat, but they fumbled it inside the 5 or something. Or atleast, that is what somebody told me.

Damn, I wish Greg Davis would have handled the Bobby Reid situation better. If so, he'd be a Longhorn. Props to Reid for carrying North Shore to the championship game.

Maybe it was Mack's fault too, for ignoring Reid.

This year it will be Southlake Carrol vs. Katy, but I was really commenting on the fact that the div. II champ is has recently been more highly regarded than the div. 1 champ.

I don't know how North Shore matches up with SLC, but I think Reid could potentially give them fits.

From watching HS football the last several years, I would say Houston produces the best athletes, while Dallas's superior coaching has allowed them to recently have more success. Many of their top programs produce only a few div. 1 recruits, while Houston is a recruting hotbed.

Truth, if you know the truth, please feel free to share it.

    <a HREF="http://www.uil.utexas.edu/ath/fbpair/5two.html">Football Pairings for Conference 5A, Division II</a>

    Katy and Southlake Carroll

In regards to an earlier comment about the way the UIL 5A Regions are structured:

    <a HREF="http://www.uil.utexas.edu/ath/align/2003/fbbb/5a.html">Official 2003-04 Football and Official 2003-04 Basketball District Alignment Conference 5A</a>

Region I has West Texas, Forth Worth and parts of the Metroplex

Region II has Dallas, the rest of the Metroplex, East Texas, Central Texas, a district near Austin and two districts from the North - Northwest area of Metro Houston.

Region III has Beaumont West Brook, PA Memorial and the rest of the Metro Houston area

Region IV has Austin, San Antonio and South Texas.

Lines have to be drawn somewhere and with some interesting situations arising form that.

    <b>Example</b>
Cy Springs (Region II) isn't that far from the schools in the Katy School District (Region III). From Mayde Creek High School to Cy Springs High School is less than 9 miles, but the difference in Regions puts them on entirely different tracks in regards to playoff opponents.

Last year, the D/FW area had much better talent. This year, I think Houston may have slightly more talent.

    Katy uses ineligible players. :)

15-5A is the Klein Schools with the Conroe ISD schools thrown in.
16-5A is the Cy-Fair schools with the far Northwest Schools thrown in. ie Tomball and Magnolia.

Cy-Springs is pretty close to Katy, but Cy-Springs is a Cy-Fair school, thus they went ahead and threw them into 16-5A with the rest of them.

This allignment is good til the end of the school year/baseball season because they realign bi-yearly, I think.

So the Region III winner always plays the Region IV winner in the semifinals?

    Bite me. :)

I'm actually not going to the game this weekend. Might as well watch it on television while flipping back and forth to the Duke/UT game.
