the thing is the BIAS is not even against Harden but against Houston/Rockets

If OKC traded Harden to the Lakers, Harden should be at least 1 MVP by now

Houston/Rockets are holding back Harden not the other way around

Lol. They did something similar last year and Harden was ahead by a hefty margin.

    He still ended up losing.

This is just completely irrelevant noise

If Harden wasn't unanimous, he'd be close.

Does the media like Curry more than Harden? Yes

A lot of things can happen between ASB and the end of the season. Last year, Harden's shooting % dropped precipitously towards the end due to his wrist injury and Houston as a team didn't perform that well in the second half of the season. This coincided with Westbrook making several big time clutch shots and leading OKC to similar win % as Houston after ASB.

Of course this still didn't warrant WB winning the MVP because throughout the whole 82 games I think Harden's case was stronger, but WB had better optics during the last moments of 16-17 season (and recency bias is a real psychological effect)

Could the same thing possibly happen this year too? Sure. If Houston inexplicably drops 12 straight games while Harden struggles to score, and LeBron and the Cavs suddenly go on a winning rampage, then the narrative can shift very quickly. This doesn't mean the straw poll is invalid; just that nothing is 100% certain at this point.

It’s likely invalid because the people who voted for this are generally not all (or even any) of those who actually vote for mvp.

I don’t think it’s Simmons. He has been giving everyone **** since last years MVP results were final for picking Westbrook over Harden. Claiming he was “on the right side of history”.

We just don't know that because there is no way to find out how representative this straw poll is. It could be 90% or 10%. No idea. But the fact that narrative shifted last year is not a proof of the invalidity of this straw poll, but has to do more with how quickly people's perception can change based on the most recent performance.

I have no doubt that if the MVP trophy was awarded during mid-season, Harden would have won last year.

it'S really not fair that ESPN has so many votes. I suppose all the money they pay NBA buys them this power.

Meh, Harden had huge lead on BBRef last season as well. Media doesn't follow logic unless it's blatantly obvious.

The problem with BBref is it does not factor in "narrative" and that is a massive component.

OMG... same article as the one posted above:

What do you think changes in your MVP ballot by the end of the season?
Chau: LeBron moves up and seriously challenges Harden for the MVP award. LeBron’s February thus far has been nothing short of magnificent, and it’s not difficult to imagine him keeping it going with his new supporting cast. And by keep it going, I mean averaging a triple-double for the rest of the season.

Harden has to have huge enough of a lead to leave no room for media to spin their narritives.
