Depth dd, our roster has been riddled with injuries throughout the season, I wouldn't be surprised by the end of the regular season with one player out for the reminder, hopefully that wouldn't be the case.
Don't know why anyone thinks we wouldn't need Joe Johnson. He would be a great insurance, and a vet that the coach could trust to play. Green has been awesome but if we ever needed to expand our rotations Joe Johnson would be perfect. As it stands now our we have a 9 man rotation in the playoffs. Nene, EG, Luc and Tucker will all get minutes. Wright will be extremely handy if Capela gets in early foul-trouble, and Johnson would be extremely handy if Ryan Anderson is unplayable.
Joe is a nice addition especially for the playoff, but I would probably prefer a backup PG at this point given the injury history of CP3...Knock on wood
Lmao, I'm not saying he will play the one or two but If he had to he could. This was response to wanting another PG. Joe Johnson can play 1-4 if needed without a doubt. He's a fantastic ball handler and can make great passes, obviously not his strong point but better then most guards. I have no idea how joe Johnson will be used but my point still stands he can play 1-4 and already has in his career I know we're getting an older joe Johnson and I know he's going to be used in specific minutes and uses but to say he can't is foolish If someone gets hurt he's more then capable at slotting in the guard spot. Like I said no one expects starter minutes and production from a 36 year old former star but it can still be done thus my point there is no need to worry about a backup pg
From the Ben Dubose podcast: "Only 20 NBA players have ever played more minutes than Joe Johnson, so he is sort of pushing the boundaries of what a body is capable of in the NBA. The only guys who have played more minutes than him are Vince Carter, Jason Terry, and Dirk Nowitski, and those guys aren't doing much right now." Just thought it was interesting. "Joe Johnson is a different player with 2+ days rest versus 1-2 days rest. The Jazz started to notice this and rested him strategically in certain games." So, Joe Johnson is the backcourt version of Nene, confirmed. But - "I don't know if Joe is willing to just play 10 minutes a night, especially just every third night. That wasn't his mindset in Utah, I'm not sure about Houston." "He takes some mid-range shots; hook-shots just outside of the paint - that are going to make Daryl Morey quiver - but they're good playoff shots." "He isn't a very good rebounder and he's had stretches where he makes Ryan Anderson look like a defensive player. He is not a ball-handler, I don't know where anyone is getting that from the past 8 years." "He had one of the worst RPM ratings and defensive ratings on the Jazz. He plays at his own speed; he might not have matched well with the Warriors - we'll see what he does with Houston - but if it's 92-92 and you need a bucket I'm really comfortable with him out on the floor." "He is quiet and goes about his business. He does bikram yoga every morning, 4:45-5:30 in the morning. He's huge into maintaining his body. He isn't going to talk over anyone. The night he was traded, he and a bunch of guys went out to dinner, which shows you what they think of Joe." It's not a bad pick-up. I am not sure what his expectations are but I doubt the Rockets would tell he would get PT. He's an insurance policy because there are just too many guys who are better players at this stage but if MDA can expand his rotation to keep guys fresh for a play-off run, then he brings value. I'd love to see the Rockets play 12 guys every night and keep Harden and Paul under 32 minutes. Not sure Harden will be into that but let's see.
I am hopeful some of JJ's poor play can be attributed to malaise on a team with little championship potential. Here, he will be playing in marquee games on National TV, and if he's still able to 'get up' for the right matchups on a stacked team that will need his ability to deliver at difficult moments, then this signing will more than pay off. If, on the other hand, it just leads to reduced PT for guys like Luc and Trevor for a guy whose best days are far behind him, then we will look back at this as a mistake. The question is - and this is an important one - will Dantoni be willing to pull the plug if JJ shows himself to be a shell of himself, or inferior to other guys on the team who should be ahead of him on the depth chart? Again, I fully expect that JJ still has something left in the tank, but if he doesnt, I am not at all confident that Dantoni will pull the plug.
Shooting a career low 27.4% from the arc? Hopefully THAT will change. He needs to do the Josh Smith routine - make 200 shots from 3 before leaving the gym
Do you guys remember when Weber was coming into games? Seems like an eternity ago. Daryl, thank you. Just, thank you.
