Umm, do we really have to answer that? The championships are what gave us the name CLUTCHCITY!!! Nothing is more clutch than that! Clutch the pearls man!

However, it would be great to see us sneak into the playoffs.

Oh, and no more about your "wildest expectations" please! Save that for the hangout!

No man, we were Clutchcity before we won the ring.

Correct me if I am wrong, but we got Clutchcity after Chokecity because we blew 2 20 point leads against Phoenix and then came back to win the series. All the sudden we were now ClutchCity and went on the win the ring. I believe that's how the story went.

    Anbody got advice?

Did ClutchCity come b4 or after the ring?

Actually, my description was somewhat incorrect....we got the name DURING the first title series!
SO I guess we got it not before, not after, but during!

A 12-0 run would be pretty clutch, but not as clutch as those championships.

Yeah but you know what would top even the second championship? A championship this year. Now that would be Clutch, literally almost out of the playoff picture only to squeeze in at the last minute and then making it to the conference finals and then the NBA finals for the championship, now that would be more CLUTCH than anything the Rox have done in the past.

No. The rockets are not in control of their destiny. Minnesota must fall apart for the rockets to get in and that will be mostly against other teams. In the clutch years, the rockets themselves affected the change, coming back against phoenix, etc.

I don't know about that control our own destiny stuff. Yeah they won the games, BUT we wouldn't have won the first Orlando game if it wasn't for Nick Anderson falling apart.

We were lucky Nick Anderson couldn't handle the pressure just like we would be lucky if Minnesota falls apart. BTW we'd still have to win 12 games in a row to make it to the playoffs. So we're not just counting on the wolves dying, we have to win too.

The Rockets don't really need to win 12 in a row. They need to go 9-2, and hope the T-Wolves go 5-6. With Minny's schedule, I think it could happen.

My point is simple BAND. To get into the playoffs, the rockets must hope the timberwolves falter. Don't give me that 11-0 crap, because even then the timberwolves must still lose 3 games for the rockets to get in.

In addition, didn't we sweep orlando? I would hardly call that luck. Minnesota just wasn't ready for the rockets. Besides, the rockets got the clutch city label for winning elimination games against NY and Pheonix not for schooling orlando.

The fact remains just winning games at the end of a season does not make a team clutch because it is not one game and go home. Plus, if the rockets win out and the t-wolves lose three games, the rockets would have only caused one of those loses. Then what you have to look at is the strength of the schedule for both teams. The rockets have a easier schedule, so in a sense, they should win more games during that span.

The series could have been totally different if it wasn't for Nick Anderson missing those free throws.

My point is that every team needs some luck to make it in the playoffs. Look at the Blazer collapse last year. They had that game won and choked it away making the lakers the champions.

We were also really fortunate that we didn't have to face Seattle in either one of our chamionship runs. They owned us back then.

My whole reason for replying to your post was you made it sound like "If the Rockets make it to the playoffs, it's b/c minnesota choked", but then you make it sound like the rockets didn't need help during their championship years b/c they controlled their own destiny. The rocks had no control over Nick Anderson missing those free throws, just like they had no control over Seattle getting knocked out early in the playoffs both years.

Yes they hit the big shots and won the games they had to, but they needed help too.

I was just responding to the thread BAND. If you ask me, am I proud of the rockets? I would respond with a resounding YES! But I do not think just making the playoffs from three games back is clutch. Not because it isn't a great accomplishment, but because you can't measure clutch that way. It is not a one and done situation.

But don't both teams play the other teams roughly the same number of times? ie each play the Lakers 4 times, Portland 4 times etc.?

Basically Houston gets the easier run home, but thats because Houston played the toguher games at the start of the season.

I don't like to compare much, but where would this rank on the "Clutchcity" scale if this team was able to pull a playoff spot out of its collective ass?

Don't get me wrong, I know how clutch those championships were (especaially #2) and I don't know if they can even be compared but....

This is a team that was lotto last year and everyone predicted would be lotto this year. We are on the verge of busting into the freaking Western Conference playoffs!! This team has already surpassed my wildest expectations and if we can actually get in the playoffs, the term ClutchCity will have never been more accurate and if there was any doubt...it will stick forever!
