The rockets will beat Washington, New Jersey, and Atlanta. All are terrible teams and the rockets will have at least one day rest before the games. Marbury will also be out of the game in New Jersey. Our record 42-32. The rockets need to at least split the two back-to-back games. I think the best chance of doing that is against Denver and Portland. Although we play Denver on the second day of a back-to-back game, we play at home that night and Denver is beatable. Portland is on a back-to-back when we play them, so I think we may have a chance to steal one (although we might not). Utah and Toronto will be too tough , I fear, to beat. We play both of them on their home court. [my mistake vancouver]. But this doesn't change much. I'll just move the wins against Denver and Vancouver. (Although we could win three out of four.) Our Record [still] 44-34. The rockets must beat Minnesota and Seattle. There is no getting around it. In terms of talent, both they and the rockets are about equal. The rockets will have at least one day rest but so will Minnesota and Seattle. We play both at home, so we have an advantage there. Our Record 46-34 That will put the rockets 1 1/2 games ahead of the sonics and two games behind the timberwolves. That leaves Phoenix tonight and Dallas. The rockets will beat Phoenix because the rockets are playing at home and the suns are on a back-to-back. The rockets and the suns are also evenly matched in terms of talent. Dallas, on the other hand, will beat the rockets because (at this point) they are the better team, which, I think, evens up the home court advantage of the rockets on that game. Our record 47-35 That means the t-wolves must go 5 and 5 over their next ten games (I am excluding the rockets game because the rockets have to win that one). The sad fact is the rockets might miss the playoffs by one game. Question: If the rockets end up in a tie with the t-wolves, what is the first tie breaker? Conference record? ------------------ I am an invisible man. [This message has been edited by kbm (edited March 29, 2001).]
Houston will beat Dallas. Obviously you made a mistake with "Toronto". Which team did you mean, Utah? Good take, otherwise. I still see the Rockets winning all their home games and losing only @Portland and @Utah. And I will be at the Portland game, so maybe they'll pull that one out too. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. From ESPN: Seeding tiebreakers The top eight teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs. The division winner with the best record in each conference is seeded No. 1, the other division winner is seeded No. 2 and the remaining six teams are seeded Nos. 3 - 8 according to their won-lost records. (Home-court advantage in all playoff series is determined by better won-lost record, not higher seeding.) In the event two or more teams are tied in the standings, a series of tiebreakers are applied to determine which team receives the higher seeding. Two-Team Tiebreaker 1. Better record in head-to-head games 2. Higher winning percentage in conference games 3. Higher winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division) 4. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference 5. Higher winning percentage against playoff teams in opposite conference 6. Higher point differential between points scored and points allowed Three-Team Tiebreaker 1. Best head-to-head winning percentage among all teams tied 2. Highest winning percentage in conference games 3. Highest winning percentage within division (if teams are in the same division) 4. Highest winning percentage against playoff teams in own conference 5. Highest point differential between points scored and points allowed ------------------
ZRB, are you sure you are up to the challange of being a good luck charm? This is a huge responsibility for you. If you go to the Portland game and the Rockets win then your status as good luck charm will be secured. But if we loose....I hate to think of it...you will be forever more be considered an albotross. Well can you handle the responsibility? ------------------
One good thing is that even if the Rockets are more than 1 game behind the T-Wolves going into that last game vs them, they will still have hope and something to play for b/c Minny plays one more game after that. So, we must get to within 1 1/2 games back before the final game to have a chance. But, of course it would be better if we were less than 1 1/2 behind by then, but I just want that last game to have some meaning since it may be Dream's final game as a Rocket. O yea, the game the T-Wolves play after us is @Dallas. Hopefully the Rockets will get back in it so we can root for Dallas to win this one. ------------------ [This message has been edited by DieHard Rocket (edited March 29, 2001).]
So, we must get to within 1 1/2 games back before the final game to have a chance. But, of course it would be better if we were less than 1 1/2 behind by then, Unfortunately, this is not right. If we're 1 1/2 games back by the Minnesota game, we're out. Best-case scenario would be Minn losing to both us and Dallas, but that puts us at a tie, and we lose all tie-breakers due to our crappy Western Conference record. We need to be a 1/2 game out to have any shot, and that still means Minnesota has to lose to Dallas after they play us. To control our own destiny, we have to be a 1/2 game ahead going into that game (unrealistic barring a miracle). ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
You mean we need to be atleast 1 game back going into the last game with Minn. Then, assuming we win that game, we would need Mavs to beat Twolves and we'd be up 1/2 a game, 8th playoff seed. If the Rockets can get some momentum, it's still possible. And hopefully the fans come out to the games to make some noise, support them, get the adrenaline pumping. ------------------
No, Shanna was right, because once the season is over, there will be no "half" game differences. All teams will have played the same amount of games. So we need to be a half game behind them going into that game, and they have to lose in Dallas. ------------------ Behad Sergeant at Arms of the Clutch BBS
