The Rockets' Javair Gillett received his award as the 2016-17 National Basketball Strength & Conditioning Association Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year before Tuesday's game.

Javair earns it in so many different ways," Rockets forward Ryan Anderson said. "I never met a guy, especially in the NBA profession, that cares so much about the wellness not only of players, but of trainers, staff. He just invests so much into guys. He knows how to push guys and he knows how to work with guys and communicate with guys. I think that's the definition of a great leader, somebody that know different personalities and can talk to different people and lead them in the right way. He does that."
Gillett was selected in a vote of the NBSCA members for his work last season, when the Rockets had few long-term injuries and finished with the third-best record in the NBA.

"It's well-deserved," Rockets vice president Keith Jones said. "The way performance and strength and conditioning has gone in the league, everything that he brings, even from his experience in baseball (with the Detroit Tigers) and basketball before, he has combined different realms. I think he's one of the best sports performance people around, regardless of sport. Last year, we led the league in fewest games missed. I attribute that to his program and Jason (Biles, the Rockets head trainer) and the integration of that stuff. They've done a really good job."

This is one of the best ways to spend money in a capped league. Limit injuries, increase production from the talent you have.

Many of the Rockets players move in irregular ways very effectively it takes a very comprehensive training regimen to be able to do many of these things.

    Harden
    CP
    Eric
    Clint
    Luc

All of these guys have very good multiplanar movement, not just straight line speed.

It was kind of funny to see the Strength and Conditioning coach honored on a night when two key players were out with injuries and a third left with one.
