Chris Paul hurt again, Trevor Ariza hurt .... that healthy 9/10-man rotation lasted all of one game? Two?
CP undoubtedly deserved to be an AS, but him being able to rest & recuperate during that time might be a plus. The ASG can be taxing. There's travel, all sorts of media demands, events day & night, the game itself, etc. As a team, I think we should come out of that break fresh.
Ain't it the truth? Losing one of the two, especially Paul, of course, would be bad enough. Fingers crossed that both are healthy soon. Harden, Luc, and Green are going to have to step up. This is when it would be nice to have a decent 3rd point. Gordon is a terrific 2 most of the time, but barely serviceable as a point guard, in my opinion. Gordon will love the extra minutes, though, if Chris misses any time.
Thus far, all the injuries have been minor. The silver lining is this might be the only way our guys get some rest this season...
If all goes spectacularly, when Ariza comes back we'll be wanting his minutes reduced so Green can get more time. I have a sneaky suspicion, though, that ClutchFans is about to find out why Gerald Green can't seem to stick on an NBA roster.
Well according to Bill Simmons on his podcast with Zach Lowe...he was a locker room leader (along with Horford) for the Celtics last season, a crucial player off the bench in the playoffs who actually ended up starting and playing well, and the Celtics wanted to bring him back this season but didn't because they had a glut of young talent at the wing positions they wanted to develop..
I hate talking about injuries and the Rockets, being a bit superstitious about it, but I have to disagree with this being "one of those years." We're having a great season, despite important guys getting banged up here and there, something we've survived, so far. I like our chances against any team in the league if we're healthy. That's what we need. Everyone in good shape for the playoffs. One other thing. I'm hoping we face Golden State for the Western Conference title and a shot at a championship, with both teams reasonably healthy. That may sound crazy, but when it comes to the Warriors, no asterisks, please! If Curry is out with a bad ankle, it'll be like Jordan playing baseball. We will see and hear endless BS from the media about how lucky we were "not to face a Warriors team with Curry." In my opinion, anyway.
Oh, I wasn't saying we weren't having a great season. We've weathered the injuries very well. I was just saying it's one of those years where we can't shake the injury bug. Just frustrating more than anything.
I figured as much. Like I said, I'm a bit superstitious about the subject. My mission is trying to cancel out any bad juju! Now pardon me while I go to the next room to bow before the voodoo thingy I recreated from the cat in Major League.
That's what happens when you wait until everyone is healthy to play 9/10 men . If Mike had expanded the rotation earlier , instead of playing 7-8 guys big minutes when players are hurt ... Then the strain levels on the guys playing would be lowered . SIT PAUL , SIT ARIZA ... Play RJ , play Troy Williams , play green , don't play James 38 minutes ...... It's not ducking rocket science !!
amazes me to see people actually think injuries are just something that can be avoided. roberson plays like 25 mins a game and he just went through one of the worst injuries a player can get. And that was without any contact
Eh I would say Shane Battier was our greatest 3 and D guy ever...Unless youre talking about the james Harden era, then I agree 100% with you However, nothing against Ariza all these years. He's been a consistent ROCK and has done everything we've asked of him. Nothing but love for Trevor. Get well, and get some rest.
Oh for sure injuries are mostly based off chance and randomness . There are very few injuries that actually occur from wearing down and overuse. But the best thing to have to prevent against serious injury and to reduce recovery time is to be well rested . Take Ariza's for example .... If Ariza is more explosive then maybe that hit he recieved doesn't alter his path that much . Maybe he's up higher and has more time to focus on landing correctly . Injuries are mostly chance , but there is an element of control . Why do GS and SA hold players out ? Is it just becuase they can ? For ***** and giggles ? It's because exercising an element of caution when you are a contender is the smart thing to do . Now , I'm by suggesting we sit harden until the playoffs . But , if our talent is really championship level then we need to stop putting regular season record above putting ourselves in the best health position possible for the playoffs .
GS and SA do those things and yet their players still have gotten injured and missed extended time. not really a valid example for Ariza. He went up just like any other time and just happen to land awkwardly. Theres no getting around that. being more "explosive" isn't the issue
