I have been a Keith fan since College and there is now way he is still in New Jersey come next season.

He can score in bunches, rebounds fairly well, his Defense is better than the Wiz and i think he would fit in fairly well here, sticking with Rudy's let keep the keyway clear theory.

My Question is NOT Do we WANT Keith Van Horn here, but salary wise can it happen?

I have heard he is Base year player and it would be tough to trade for him, but Salary Freaks and Capologists is it possible???

Assuming the Rockets did NOT get Webber this offseason, I wouldn't think getting Van Horn would be too problematic. Since we'd be under the cap, we wouldn't have to worry about matching salary on our side. We'd only have to give NJ players that equaled Van Horn's BYC value (which would be something like $3 million or less) so they can match salaries. The trade would narrow our cap space by $6 million or so. Afterwards, we could still get Webber maybe, but only in a sign-and-trade in which we give up at least that $6 million worth of players.

I had an eye on Van Horn for trade. New Jersey might want to dump salary. Say, Walt + picks. But only if Detroit or Chicago want him. Detroit might wind up with Vancouver's pick along with its own: two top-10'ers in a deep draft. Maybe Van Horn for the higher of those picks? Otherwise, I don't know if we need him here.

Van Horn would be a nice pick-up, CWebb or not. I don't buy the "soft" label that he's apparently be labeled with, and may actually fit better than Mo (better range, close to Mo in terms of ball-handling (adavantage Mo), better rebounder).

I wrote in another thread that the Rocks may want to consider, with the cap space and extra picks, taking advantage of a team looking to shake up their roster. This is the type of deal I had in mind.

ROX, Detroit may get our #1, but I don't think Van will give them theirs. If Det doesn't get ours from Van (or someone else's) they'll get Van's next year.

Smeg, ordinarily, 2 base year players make a trade twice as hard. If both both teams are capped out, each team will have the full salary of a BYC player coming in to match with only a fraction of the salary of the BYC player going out. If the same thing is happening on both sides, it makes it nearly impossible without a 3rd team. If the Rockets do the trade while under the cap, however, it'll be easy because they'll just need to send less salary then Van Horn's BYC value. In my previous post, I got this number messed up: it'd be like $6 million or less. Cato would probably do just fine, if we're under the cap.

Maybe an S&T with the Nets for Van Horn and another one with Sac for Webber, losing Cato and others?
