Have you tried deleting temporary internet files? That works for me when I try to view >source code and nothing comes up.
RM95, You sound like you are having the same type of problems that I am having on my home computer. I have MS ME (yea, I know, it sucks ) and I have been getting error messages constantly and stupid **** like "Not enough disk space or dangerously low in resources to run IE". Somehow or another I think a virus has caused some problems plus I installed Kazaa with the popups and was told that was not a smart thing to do. Fortunately, I know this friend who is going to fix or try to fix things for me. But she thinks that I may need to re-format my hard drive.
Well, I still think you should just try reinstalling IE. Chances are it will take care of this issue with links not popping up. If you have a broadband connection, the dl shouldn't take long. You can grab the latest version at http://www.microsoft.com/ie . Deleting your temp internet files/history does fix problems on some occasions, but most of the time it doesn't help. For some reason that seems to be the cure-all reccomended by most corporate help desks these days. Most of the problems I deal with at work are server side issues, yet for some reason the help desk loves to have people clear their temp files before sending the problem to me.
There is a new alert for a security bug in Windows. What it does is allows a rogue program to change your address bar so it looks like you are typing in something like www.ebay.com but it redirects you to www.easterneurope.com with a faux ebay web page. Try Ad-aware then try switching to the Opera browser until this gets patched.
Of course they try this first. It's easy and it doesn't hurt anything. Wouldn't you be pissed if a problem got passed to you when 1st or 2nd level support didn't try the obvious stuff first. It's the first rule of troubleshooting, eliminate the easy stuff before you bust your skull trying to fiqure out the hard stuff.
It looks like I have the Trojan virus, according to Earthlink who called me out of the blue last night to ask if I was uploading anything. Hopefully I can get that fixed by my good friend Major.
You arent running any AV software RM? and do you mean you have a trojan? It technically isnt a virus, but a backdoor program that allows others to use your computer remotely.
