    The NEW NORMAL?
This does not even warrant making it front page news anymore?

(CNN)Another high school has turned into a scene of carnage, this time in western Kentucky.

Sixteen people were wounded, two of them fatally, after a shooter opened fire Tuesday morning at Marshall County High School, authorities said. Four others sustained various injuries.

A 15-year-old male student was arrested at the scene and will be charged with murder and attempted murder, Gov. Matt Bevin said. Marshall County Attorney Jeff Edwards said it's likely the suspect will be charged as an adult, but his name won't be released unless he's indicted.
Authorities identified the slain victims as Bailey Holt and Preston Cope, both 15. Bailey died at the high school, and Preston died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, according to Kentucky State Police Commissioner Richard W. Sanders.

Bailey Holt and Preston Cope, both 15, were killed in the shooting.
Sanders said the suspect, armed with a handgun, walked into the school at 8:57 a.m. ET and started shooting. The first 911 call came two minutes later.
The victims ranged from 14 to 18, state police said. Fourteen were male and six female.

Some parents said their children told them the shooting started in the commons area before class, CNN affiliate WSMV reported.
Missy Hufford said her son, Ethan, 15, ran into the gymnasium and out of the building through a side door. Then he called and asked her to pick him up, she said.
"I know when he called me, he said, 'Mom, there's been a shooting.' And I asked him if he was OK, and he said, 'I'm running,' " WSMV reported.
Misty Green said her daughter, Morgan, was in the commons area and "heard the 'pop, pop, pop' and initially got down, and then just realized what was going on, so they took out running out of the building as fast as they could."
"And teachers were grabbing kids up and helping them get into safe places. And helping them get outside and get to a safe location," Green told WSMV.
Junior Taylor Droke told CNN affiliate WZTV that she and a friend were running late and arrived as students poured out of the school.
"You could see students dropping their bags and just start running, pushing past each other," she said. "Everyone in cars started turning around and driving away. Kids were jumping the fence around the school and running through the woods."
Droke said she contacted her mother on FaceTime. Then she and her friend gave a ride to some students and loaned them phones to call their parents.
"Everyone just left their bags and ran, so people had no cell phones," Droke said.

If you can't at least beat Harris and Klebold's body count, you won't be front page.

It is a new normal as you stated in large part because of shameful, disgusting, organizations like cnn. they've made it realistic and fashionable for these shooters.

America doesn't want to acknowledge that it's a crappy country due to gun violence.

Yep, at this point for me it takes every ounce of willpower I have everyday not to shoot up a school. CNN is like a Lay's: "Bet you can't shoot just one!"

we did create a universal thread for these. Helps kind of underline the theme, which is that we as a country don't really care about this unless we've lost a person close to us.

We should crest over 50% before too long. Then maybe we'll have some action on this problem?

I used to joke about that, but we're a very long way from even getting close to a few % of the US population having lost someone or having someone injured in a mass shooting. From my understanding of the stats, "mass shootings" comprise a pittance of total gun deaths, which are usually handgun mediated between two people who know one another.

Swap out 15 year old male student with middle eastern immigrant and it will get on the front page of at least conservative news outlets...

Or any immigrant with darker-than-white skin. Yeah, sad.

Mentally ill white person slays? Oh, well, that is "tragic" and "nothing we can really do."

One immigrant kills a single person, though, maybe accidentally, and an entire political party is "complicit" in "murder."

Seems very balanced and consistent, with a clear focus on the greater good of society.

Do one-off murders of loved ones not change people's feelings about what should be done about gun violence in this country?

I know it's Kentucky, but the suspect hasn't been identified. Couldn't it be a middle eastern immigrant? Or do we assume that if it was it'd been leaked by now?

You are correct, it hasn't been released yet. I am guessing a small farm town in Kentucky isn't likely to have many Middle Eastern immigrants.

Noteworthy that the Canadian PM offered his condolences...

A terrible tragedy... sad to read that it is already the 11th shooting to happen in an U.S. school this year, and the 50th this school year.

There's conflicting thoughts on reporting these types of incidents. There's a theory that reporting these incidents gives the killers the infamy that they are seeking out and that it also helps spread their "manifestos".

Personally, I still think it's worth reporting the incident, but omit the perpetrator's name and motives, leave that for the investigators. Remember the victims, release their names (granted family approval) and memorial services.

Haven't been watching the news lately but has Trump tweeted anything about this yet?

    Was the shooter white?

Wonder what Trump would say if the shooter was Muslim (terrorist), black (thugs), or a Hispanic (illegal).

My gosh, Sanders should consider another line of work...

Sanders accuses reporter of saying Trump is 'complicit in a school shooting'
