I'm thinking about buying a couple of lobsters and surprising my girlfriend sometime this month with a little home cooked seafood dinner. I was wondering which cooking method do you all prefer, steaming or boiling? What side items are good for lobster, I already have shrimp but what other things and how do I prepare them?

Get some crawfish tails and oysters, and deep fry them along with the shrimp.

Or make gumbo or etouffee using shrimp and crawfish. But my fave is always battered and fried crawfish/shrimp/oyster. I'd go with the traditional lobster boil w/ some fettucine and white wine.

    Good luck!

I have always boiled lobster and that has always worked out well. I only suggest doing it outside, otherwise your house will reek of dead fish for days. For a side I usually steam some asparagus and buy some good rolls. I'll have to try that RL recipie next time though, I really like those as well.

How about having the store I buy them at steam them for me? Does that work out well?

Well, most people don't like the big chain restaurants like Red Lobster and Olive Garden...

A great way to prepare lobster is the way the Palm restaurant does it. Steam the lobster, stretch it out on a broiler pan, take a sharp knife and split the tail from the body to the fins, insert butter and garlic, and stick it under the broiler in your oven for 5 minutes. It's excellent!

Yep...either go to the Palm and pay twenty bucks a pound, or go to Hong Kong Market, buy your own lobster and do it yourself.

Pappadeux's has a pretty good stuffed lobster thingy.

They basically grill the tail meat and stuff the shell with a seafood stuffing, then serve together with dirty rice and some crawfish ettoufee.

You could probably pull it off. In fact, I think you can buy the seafood stuffing mix premade that is pretty tasty...grill the lobster meat...and make some crawfish ettoufee with frozen crawfish tails and the ettofee mix powder...(use one can chicken broth and one cup water instead of 2 cups of water.)

Dirty rice is pretty easy, but just pick up an order at Pappadeux's for about $4....saves a bunch of time.

    good luck.
