While the top teams in the Western Conference are seperated by 4.5 games from the top spot it is still anybody's game for the top spot but while the Rockets are just 3.5 out of the last spot it is a slim chance they get in? I see this on all the sports networks and magazines. So can anybody answer this? By the way in the new ESPN Power Ranking they totally rip the Rockets. ------------------ Arkansas' Biggest Rocket Fan!
Being 4.5 games from the top spot means you're already in the playoffs. Being 3.5 out of the last spot with you only minimally, if at all, controlling your destiny means you have a slim chance of getting into the playoffs. You see that on all the sports networks and magazines, because it's true. About the ESPN Power Rankings; we know.... and they suck : http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/012191.html http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum3/HTML/012206.html ------------------ "We need a chicken butt." -- heypartner is moving swiftly to help make the CC.net BBS more efficient and run faster. I could be wrong DoD, but I think you might have mis-read Lil Pun. I think what he is saying is that all the sports networks and magazines are claiming that it's easier for one team to make up 4.5 games (to become number one in the WC) then it is for the Rockets to make up 3.5 games (to make the playoffs). Then again, I might have killed to many brain cells in college. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
Well, dang. You're right... I did mis-read that. Sorry Lil Pun! In that case, I really have no idea what the blazes they're talking about. ------------------ "We need a chicken butt." -- heypartner is moving swiftly to help make the CC.net BBS more efficient and run faster. That's exactly what I am saying. Why are they saying, oh it's unclear if the Mavs or Blazers will make up 4 games and get the top spot, while it's very slim that the Rockets make up 3 games and get the bottom spot. ------------------ Arkansas' Biggest Rocket Fan!
maybe cause the top 6 reams are so tight and there are 6 teams there is more likely clashes/games between the 6 of them and thus a greater opportunity for positions to change, whereas with the Rocks is just the T-Wolves, well and maybe the Sonics, don't burn me for that but if we're a chance so are they. Smeg, while that makes sense, I don't think they thought about it that hard. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
I think the idea is that in the Top 6 spots, all six teams could move fairly significantly with a 1 or 2 game shift, not that the #6 team could easily get the #1 spot. However, the #1 team could easily drop to 3 or 4 and the #4 team could easily move to #1. The #6 team could easily move to 2 or 3 and vice-versa. On the other hand, at most, the #8 seed could fall to #9 and vice versa -- and that takes (at the time) a *5* game swing (since we lose the tie-breaker and were 4 games back). Of course the first story is bigger. The latest Power Rankings deserved to rip the Rockets -- they went 0-3 during the week that was being discussed. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
