Franchise isn't better than Cat: Advantage Franchise: 1) Rebound: 5.5 vs 4.2 2) Assist: 5 vs 3 Disadvantage Franchise: 1) FG%: 40.6% vs 45.1% 2) 3PT%: 29.6% vs 42.6% 3) TO: 3.6 vs 2.1 4) Fouls: 3.1 vs 2.4 From here, we can see Franchise is probably a better skilled player but he is very error-prone. You can make a case that Cat is smarter player than Franchise because he has better shot selection and commits less mistakes. Another conclusion from this is that life is not fair because Steve makes more than double of Cat.
Cat's shooting percentage is better and is playing more efficiently. In terms of just "shooting" this is the worst I have seen Francis in a number of years. I think the fact that Francis is trying to adjust to JVG's system might have something to do with this. He is still learning when to take his shots, when to take his shots in the flow of the offense. I would really like to see Francis' 3pt shooting percentage raised to above 29%. Especially with our low post players.
One more thing...I think that during this shooting slump that Francis is in, he needs to work better to get to the foul line for FTs. He is explosive to the basket. That is one of his advantages and he has to make good use of them. Of course it goes without saying that if we had any semblence of a fast break that is another great opportunity to increase FG% with higher percentage shots.
Well, one of them had to suffer with Yao's emergence. Unfortunately, it was Steve, which is why I think he'll get traded this offseason.
I think Yao's presence takes some shots from Steve. In addition to that, he forces other players to shoot outside. Steve probably has a worse jumper than Cat. That's why he is suffering. I do agree Steve should be traded for a pass first PG. How about Steve for JWill+somebody. JWill averages 7.1 assists and only 1.6 TO! He has the best Ast/TO ratio among top PGs
If Steve doesn't improve do this : Houston trades: PG Steve Francis (18.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 4.7 apg in 38.7 minutes) PG Moochie Norris (2.9 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 2.2 apg in 15.0 minutes) Houston receives: PF Kwame Brown (7.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.6 apg in 26.5 minutes) PG Gilbert Arenas (20.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 5.5 apg in 37.5 minutes) Change in team outlook: +7.4 ppg, +4.6 rpg, and +0.2 apg. Washington trades: PF Kwame Brown (7.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.6 apg in 26.5 minutes) PG Gilbert Arenas (20.9 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 5.5 apg in 37.5 minutes) Washington receives: PG Steve Francis (18.5 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 4.7 apg in 17 games) PG Moochie Norris (2.9 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 2.2 apg in 17 games) Change in team outlook: -7.4 ppg, -4.6 rpg, and -0.2 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED
Mobley has the first twenty games since his 1st season of good shot selection and you want to trade Francis?
It can be a good move to trade Steve because he doesn't fit our system now. Arenas is a similar player to Steve and I don't think Wiz will bite that trade. A trade for Kidd is more likely than this because Kidd has a reason to leave NJ.
Oh boy ... first Cat was more consistent than Yao, and now Cat is better than Stevie. Why the heck don't you guy build this team around Cat? Cat is just an above average shooting guard for christ sake... Yao is the second best center in the NBA and Stevie is a top 5 point guard in the NBA. Both Yao ans Stevie are allstars. Don't be stupid ....
Gilbert Arenas?? Everybody's main complaints about Steve are that he doesn't pass enough and that he's turnover prone, so naturally you trade for a PG that shoots more and has a worse assist/turnover ratio...
besides shooting.... Francis is getting more and more comfortable with the new system..... will ya all give it a little more time?
actually, the wiz may very well bite on that trade because they dont like kwame, arent satisfied with arenas, whereas mooch and steve are remembered maryland natives. still wont happen though.
Steve is not a top 5 PG this season. Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, Starbury, Sam Cassell, Arenas are all better than Steve stat-wise this season. The problem with Steve is that his contribution doesn't match his salary. For his salary, we can get a more productive player for our system. Of course it is still early in the season, let's see if Steve can fit in for the year. If he doesn't improve, a trade should be made in the off-season.
Now you're just being silly, Arenas hasn't led that team to a winning season in the East and you saw what stats did for him at Golden State. At least the Rockets won 45 games with probably worse talent in Steve's second year. Right now, I'm glad we have Steve instead of Kidd, but obviously Kidd's a better pure point. Marbury has one good season in his career and he's better than Steve. Starbury sure is carrying that Suns team now.
Is Cat a better player? Probably not. Has he been more effective this season? Yes, so far. Steve does seem to be making an effort to learn the system. As long as he's doing that, I'm not going to be too critical for a while.
I have been partial to Mobley since he and Francis have been here, however, few people rival Francis' athletic ability. I think Mobley fits the JVG system better than Francis does and I sense a "I want to be traded" scenario developing in the weeks ahead. I agree with ATrain, I don't think Francis will be here next year as I believe he will ask to be traded to a more guard-oriented team in the East. Otherwise the Rockets apparently want to "keep-change him" and won't initiate the deal.
Who cares? It's not an either/or ; it has to be both or none. You don't play the game with one on and and one off. You need two working together. Dump them both.
