My guess is that Eddie will eventually grow up and straighten himself out. Then he will realize that $900,000 a year jobs are hard to come by, and he will return to the NBA. Rockets seem like a logical place to start. He needs a job, and we are happy to give him an opportunity.

My question is, since JVG is playing an 8 man rotation, who sits to give Eddie PT?

    No one.
Look at it this way. He will probably be dealing with legal issues and court dates till early to mid Feb at the earliest.

Even if he is mentally ready to come back after the court cases are resolved and he doesnt end up in jail, he will still need many practices with the team to be prepared to be a member of the rotation.
He will also need to prove to VG that he is a changed man, and can make a difference on the court.

Im sorry to say..best case scenario...we resign him for one year to give him a chance to prove himself worthy of the picks and the time spent developing him.....next year. He will not be a member of the rotation till next year...best case.

Worst case....he never suits up as a Rocket ever again.

A few words, He can straighten himself. And again teh Jason Kidd Example. He hit a woman, but on this board we would trade almost anyone on this team for that idiot. Hypocracy anyone???

I wish EG the best and hope he gets to wear a Rox uni again. I want that because I know what he would have to do to get there, notably get his head and legal issues cleared up and then come groveling to JVG and work hard to join the team again.

If and when Eddie returns the rotation would have to be lengthened to include EG. Heck we will miss EG tonight more than ever. MoT has finally said what we all knew: he is too damn short to play Duncan.

There may be a strong positive that comes out of this yet. Eddie Griffin is obviously a skilled player that teams were coveting last year and even this summer.

After this year or next he would have been a free agent and with our payroll of Francis/Cato/Taylor etc. and Yao and Cat's upcoming increase in salaries, I don't know if the Rockets could have afforded him.

BEST CASE SCENARIO: He comes back later this year and does extremely well and shows a commitment to excellence and a dedication to the game after his mistakes. He probably will not play too much, and his market value will be low. The Rockets having inside knowledge of his game and how he's better now sign him for 3-4 years at a low salary 3-4 million a year.

We have a chance to keep Griffin for a while then at a below market rate based on his abilities.

Exactly. It really is players like Garnett, Duncan, Nowitzki, Wallace, Radmonovic, C. Robinson etc that Griffin matches up with MUCH more favorably than Cato/Taylor. For these quickfooted inside outside guys Griffin is the best matchup. Cato just cant hang with those players that play outside. I am not saying that Griffin is a defensive stopper by any means but he at least gives us a dimension we dont have.

I look forward to and hope Griffin can come back and contribute.

Eddie will never come back to the Rockets because JVG is too much of a disiplinarian. Only players that want to improve and win will put up with JVG, Eggie is no such player. I could see Eggie going to team where there is little presure and the coach is not a hard ass.

The OLD Eddie might be that way. But how about a new and improved Eddie via his hospital stay? Perhaps he comes back with new vigor after putting his past troubles behind him. Perhaps he will be LOOKING for direction and structure to get him back on track.

I don't know the details of the Jason Kidd (or the Eddie Griffin ) case. My point is that if someone is unstable enough to criminally assualt a woman I wouldn't want them back on my team. Not Jason Kidd - not Kobe Bryant - not Shaq.

Somethings are more important then winning games, and one of those is the way we treat our fellow human beings.

You don't believe in redemption? In second chances? I agree with you that if Griffin's in a drug-abusing, woman-assaulting state of mind, I don't want him near the team. But, if he were to try to redeem himself, to reconcile for past wrongs, I think the proper way to treat a fellow human being is to give him the opportunity to try it. All I'd suggest is to not be too hard-hearted about Eddie.
