Which standing can you simply not believe so far? Philly "leading" the Atlantic by simply being a half-game over 0.500 NJ re-signing Kidd yet wasting away at 9-11 Orlando hemorrhaging to 1-19 LeBron having almost no effect on the Cav's record (5-15) Melo and Denver rolling to 13-7 Jazz looking like a playoff team (11-8) Spurs looking almost as bad as the Nets at 11-10 Suns falling back after all the playoff talk (8-11) Evan
I voted Denver. According to USATODAY, they have had one of the easiest schedules(26th). I expect them to be way under .500 by the end of the season.
1) Philly is not so surprising. They still lack talent and are an up and down team. 2) NJ IS surprising a bit. They should be better than they are showing. They have had some injuries, but so has everyone to some extent. They aren't playing "inspired" BB right now. I think Byron Scott being a lame duck coach has something to do with this. Blame Thorn on this. Either tie him up for more years or cut him lose for someone else. They probably should have just cut him loose and tried to get Eddie Jordan. EJ was a Kidd favorite anyway. 3) Orlando is surprising. They lose D. Armstrong and gained Howard. They should be better than they are. Injuries have hurt them, Garrity and Giricek are zone busters from the outside. But they still should be better. 4) No surprise on Cleveland. They are still young. 5) Denver not surprised about. Great FA moves and great draft picks and a coach that gets the most out of their players. 6) Surprised about Utah. They have little to no star players there yet are winning games using intelligent basketball. I doubt this will last but it is surprising. I bet most thought they would only win 20 games this year and they already have one half of that amount in the first month! 7) Spurs looking bad is a result of some injuries and the new players not fitting in. Rasho is still trying to find his way. I think Hedo has been a disappointment. I think they were hoping more from him. Slightly surprised about their record, but with the new players and injuries I can see where they are struggling early. 8) Suns were overrated last year. They are coming down back to Earth. They have 3 star players but no depth. Marion has a lot of off nights. I would say Utah is the biggest surprise with NJ's falloff next.
I had a lot of trouble choosing between Denver or Orlando. That Orlando could get that messed up is surprising. But, who'd have ever thought Denver would get it together? Certainly, Orlando's feat is the more impressive one. But, then losing is much easier to do than winning -- so I went with Denver.
whats bizarre is that Orlando is 1-19 and only 9 and a half back from first, not to mentiono the playoffs. The east sucks.
Definitely the Magic, not only because they aren't living up to expectations, but because of the magnitude of their suckiness.
NO kidding, the East is horrendous. (sp) I think the Spurs current record isn't so hot, especially when protecting the Championship trophy. They always start slow, but this slow?
The Magic at 1-19. That's freaking nuts. I knew they were going to suck (.500, maybe), but this is just silly.
Magic win the award easily. How bizarre it was that a team lost 19 straight games, 4 games away from NBA record, and that team was in playoff last year It will be more bizarre if Magic makes the playoff this year. Eastern Conf. is a joke.
You can't leave out the Lakers....Sure, people knew they would be a good team, but 18-3?? Where's that bickering between all those big egos? Where's Malone and Payton breaking down due to old age? Where's Kobe's legal troubles casting a shadow over the team? They're cruising along with no signs of stopping...
