Who runs Puerto Rico? You guessed it. Democrats. Now, is their local response merely the result of their normal incompetence, a desire to slow-walk recovery projects with an aim towards making the president look bad, or a combination of the two?

There got to be other places that make these drugs and supplies? If not, that's a god awful oversight, which isn't surprising at all with the dumbest admin ever.

Eh, I don't see how this supply model would have been implemented or favored by the current administration over previous ones. Separately the relationship would seem to benefit Puerto Rico in the long term. I think the takeaway from this entire situation is once again that we just don't give a **** about Puerto Rico.

But what about that Puerto Rican mayor who's out parading in front of cameras and spending time on social media instead of doing her job????

I think who we should be blaming for this is Puerto Rico for mismanaging what money they did have instead of building a worthwhile infrastructure which should have been their primary focus.

I know the most laughably ridiculous partisans will make an attempt to blame Trump for it, but in reality, the problems that PR is having is due to their own corruption and mismanagement....which is an excellent reason to refuse them statehood IMO. They need to prove that they'd be more than a burden to the US and in order for that to happen they'd need to completely reform damn near every aspect of their government.

Puerto Rico's finance is screwed up and there's plenty of fingers to point, sure. But do we use screwed up state/local finance as an excuse for inadequate disaster response when it comes to NJ, Lousiana, Kansas, etc.? Only well-financed, well-managed parts of the country deserve an adequate recovery effort now?

You do realize there is a difference between states and territories right? Also, I don't view completely rebuilding PR from the ground up as being the minimum threshold for an "adequate disaster response". There's a difference between giving them a hand and effectively doing everything for them. If they were a state, the federal government would have a greater responsibility when it comes to disaster relief, but they specifically voted many times over the years to retain their independence and.....well, when you are independent you can't claim that the US has to completely rebuild your island from the ground up that you let go to hell before being crushed by disasters.

The incompetence of those who keep getting elected to run PR has led to that island being run completely into the ground, they have truly no one to blame but themselves even if other factors made things more difficult for them.

Spoken like a truly despicable person. Yep, Puerto Ricans are "slow-walk"ing their recovery, living without power, water, and communications just to make Trump look bad. YEP. lol

Puerto Rican politics are completely different from the cesspool you dopes have created in the US. Get a clue.

Can't be any more of a burden than Kansas, Kentucky, and most deep red states that need to be subsidized by NY and Cali to survive.

And there it is. Their brand of citizenship is lesser that ours...therefore they don't deserve the help.

Yes, they've been a financial disaster. No one has said we should completely rebuild the entire country from the ground up. But making sure they have adequate power, communications, and running water would be a good start.

So . . . . Puerto Ricans are second class citizens?
So they deserve second class service?

Not necessarily "second class citizens", but there is certainly a difference. I mean, parts of the constitution don't even apply to them due to their independent status....so it should seem obvious that things would be different when talking about the responsibilities the federal government has to an independent territory and the responsibilities they'd have to a state. Unfortunately all too often things that should seem obvious end up not being obvious down here in the D&D
