I know most people don't like Ruben Patterson, but I really think his defense and hustle can help us at the 3 spot. I wonder if they want Moochie
I know, we could trade Rice + player for Sheed!! It fits exactly what they are looking for... Wait, we gave the Jazz our first round pick to save Les some bucks. If only we voted to build Les a new arena...
I think Portland may be willing to do something like this: Cato Mobley Trade exception for Patterson Wallace I'd definitely do it. Wells is gone, Anderson is struggling getting back and Woods is inconsistent. Mobley would be a nice piece, especially citing his contract. Cato would provide them with a backup for Davis (which they dont have) and a backup for Randolph (they won't have after this). The trade exception is cap space. They get 2 very solid pieces. If they'd rather let him walk, that's fine I guess. I definitely think someone could offer a better package, but it depends on who's willing to take a risk on Wallace.. I would definitely be willing.
Talent is talent. JVG dealt with Larry Johnson and Latrell Sprewell in NY. Hubie will deal with Bonzi and has made a terriffic PG of J'Dub. Consider this: How many Championships does Dennis Rodman have? JVG is a HUGE fan of Rasheed Wallace, and from what I read in the chronicle, I'm MORE than confident he'd make the relationship work.
I think you can use the trade exception to get Sheed. Trouble is Sheed's salary is $17 mil for 03-04. Cato's: $7.3 mil, our trade exception: $7 mil. We have to throw in a player making ~ 3mil to make it work. Maybe they will take Mooch or Amaechi off our hand? On a side note, I used to think Sheed'd fit with our team but I have doubt now after hearing about his behavior. If we do want Sheed, we will have to get him in a trade soon. Next year he becomes FA and we have no cap room to bid for his service. (The trade exception can NOT be used to acquire FA).
I wouldn't do it all this teams needs is a cancer, weare stronger with taylor and cato then with just sheed
I'm not so sure that Cato and MoT aren't far superior as a tandem at 4 and with Cato at 5 than Rasheed alone, problems or not!
I agree that we are giving up too much trading Cato+MoT for Sheed as far as trade value concerns. Talentwise, it could be argued that Sheed is better for us. Cato mostly plays defense while MoT mostly plays offense. There are moments on the court that they are useless. With Sheed you will get the best (or close to the best) of both guys in one. Another thing that should be pointed out though. We complained that Cato and MoT are overpaid. Sheed is getting paid as much as both combined. I don't know if we want to shell out $17 mil to get 18 pts, 7 rebs / game?
Especially when we get more combined from our two, and we can send fresh bodies out there for 48 straight minutes. MoT's defense and rebounding are much better so far too and he really is just now getting his game legs... Forget RahWeed... That's a 17 million dollar bale son...
The Powerforward position is our weakest link. Both Cato & Mo are not starter quality. Wallace would be a good gamble + his salary would come off the books this summer. If it doesn't work out we can go after a free agent . Mo has a bad history starting from his days in college, he will find a way to screw up again next year. Cut the ties with these below average role players.
So you would have cut ties with: Mario Elie, Robert Horry, Chucky Brown, etc. etc. to get a big name power forward to screw up chemistry and lose two championships?
No, but you can not tell me that those guys are in the same class as Mo & Cato. Mo is the Blackhole & Cato is Mr. Stonehands.
OK, you're right, silly me. You said Rasheed will be better than two players with better chemistry and better overall stats. Two players that can go full out for the minutes they play and one who legitimately can play 5 too. Damn, I wish I would have seen that post before...
Lets keep Houston trouble free, we already have to deal with EG, we don't want Rasheed Wallace and his troubles here.
The problem is Cato can't score other than layups and dunks, and is a defensive liability with power forwards who play facing the basket and Taylor is a liability with bigger fours and he can't consistently rebound. Rasheed gives you the strengths of both players as well as being able to back up the center. You could put Braggs back on the roster and have a three man rotation at the two positions.
