In all honesty, James could have been a 3x MVP.
in 2015, he was robbed- He had better stats than Curry. But it was given to Steph simply because of his number one record and 67 team wins
in 2017, James had a better season- more wins and better stats in terms of scoring and more points scored for team but it was given to Westbrook for simply averaging a triple double- never been done in long time since oscar Robertson
In 2018, It is a 3 man race between Kyrie, Harden and Lebron. Harden should in all honesty be unanimous this year

this lead me to believe, that what if he was a 3x MVP. How would you look at his greatness- what do you think his perception would look like.
How would media look at him?
would he be in alltime discussion of being better than curry? Would we have gotten KD instead of GSW? Everything we think about Harden changes if he is a 3x MVP
Its a classic case of how media uses these players to change our perception of them. Tricking us into believing which guys may be better than others, even though a player is better than the other.
No knock on curry or westbrook- but media can play a huge role on peoples perception of all time greats

in this era people would rank in terms of individual talent 1. curry 2. westbrook 3. harden
    if harden won 3 mvps
it would easily be 1. harden 2. curry 3. westbrook

A 2X MVP but with no Championship ring.

I think the media would turn against him.

I like this year, he has a chance to both win the MVP and a ring for Houston.

Deserves three separate own threads. One for DMo, one for Melo, one for JH MVP. Also one for photochopping DMo.

I'd think nothing of it. In my book, he is. And I'm an extremely harsh critic.

All I fear is that if he does actually win it, does he stop trying to achieve it? It doesn't seem like him, but you never know. I mean he has one of the richest shoe & NBA contracts, and he still brings it.

Oops... I forgot to treat this like a legit thread. It's actually a decent thought.

I agree that the media shapes the views of casual fans quite a bit and casual fans seem to regurgitate whatever argument that's put forth. So if Harden was working on his third MVP right now, I think people would have a much higher opinion of JH. However, Harden seems very hungry this year and I do feel like that's fueled by the contempt of the media and failure. What would he be springing off of if it weren't for them?

Did Dirk winning an MVP while failing in the playoffs change people’s perception of him?

Did LeBron winning 2 MVPs in Cleveland change people’s perception of him as a player when he failed in the playoffs?

Personally, I think MVP awards that aren’t coupled with postseason success does not make a huge difference on how a player is perceived. David Robinson won an MVP in 95 (and if we are only going by individual stats, one could argue he deserved more MVPs than 1) and Karl Malone won 2 MVPs later in the decade. Did that vault them to a category they wouldn’t otherwise have been placed into? In my mind, no.

he would get more hate if he was a 3x MVP with some of the playoff performances he's had, especially in elimination games.

If Harden had the two MVPs he rightfully deserved, and had the same playoff performances, he would be thought of less like a prime McGrady and more like KD before going to GS

David Robinson wasn't even that bad of a postseason player, he averaged well over 20 PPG in nearly every playoff series before he hit 35, that one series unfairly defined his legacy as permanent second banana to Hakeem, who only won (multiple) championships thanks to Tim Duncan coming along after Robinson went down for the year.

He's already a 2x MVP. This year would be his third if he keeps it up.

Rockets fans and people in general are greedy.

If he won mvp, we'd expect him to have a ship or more.

Durant couldn't take the heat so he left his balls at the kitchen and gtfo.

Doesn't mean Harden is not worthy of it. Helluva lot more worthy than wb or that Durant season where he exploited the refs with the rip through all the way to an mvp but no ship (because that's all he did right?)

    Narratives suck

Why in the world is Kyrie Irving in the mix for MVP? Team record alone can't do it- and Irving is currently ranked #12 in points and #23 in assists. How in the world does that put him in the top 3??

Reason for why Harden should be unanimous. Also Kyrie is said by media to be in race

Totally agree. James does not make any comments about this or anything that is controversial.

Most superstars would be barking if league rules were created to specifically target him. I think the media sees him as boring in terms of sellability hence, the hesitancy to endorse him as MVP. They think that headline won't sell as much.
