Is that a real tweet? Lulz... Thought for sure it was his turnover problem, of which he had a whopping 1!
Just for lols. I imagine the follow up tweet will be: "Russell Westbrook falls just 1 assist shy of adding to his league leading # of triple doubles!"
"James Harden had an up and down game tonight. The Good: 37 points 10 assists The Bad: -23% eFG% differential in Garbage Time"
"Westbrook's near triple double woud've been a league best and coincidentally would've also been on Kareem Abdul Jabar's 3rd cousins birthday"
Russ took only 1 shot in the last 6 minutes he played tonight when he had the hottest hand of his team, he just kept passing the ball to guys guarded closely even in fast break situations. On the contrast, in their game against the Pistons last night, he kept jacking up contested three late in the game, completely ignoring wide open teammates. Sometimes his decision making makes me smh.
That's just stat chasing and to him it's the most important thing. He doesn't care if his team gets blown out so long as he gets a triple double. That's why he's a terrible player to have on your team.
10 years from now... "Westbrook, 40 years old and affectionately referred to as the "Rounder Mound of Rebound", secured his 500th career triple double by boxing out teammate Steven Adams on a missed free throw. Widely considered to be the best player of his generation, Westbrook's career has been plagued by a lack of help." In subscript at the bottom "OKC finishes 11-71 on the year for their 10 consecutive losing season"
Yet it seems like about half of NBA fans are so dug-in on "triple double!!!!" that nothing else matters. Dude at my office (same guy as the Jeff Withey thread) reads NBA-related tweets all day instead of working, and once told me that he doesn't watch or read any mainstream NBA outlets because he knows more than any paid sports analyst. Every time Westbrook comes up in conversation, we're off to the races. It's always "how can you argue against triple double...???" If you ever watch Westbrook play instead of just reading box scores, it all comes together clearly. Dude is a phenomenal talent who could be a legit MVP if he had someone else's brain.
The value of guards getting boards is overestimated, because naturally they should be guarding the perimeter so they are most likely not in a good position to grab the rebounds. Besides, the most important part in rebounding is box out, which most guards including Westbrook, don't have a big enough body to do a good job on. Westbrook get most his defensive rebounds uncontested, at the expense of leaving his man wide open outside the three point line and making his big man looks really bad. Adams is a really good rebounder, I remember him crashing boards like crazy in 2016 playoffs against Spurs(Duncan was too old) and Warriors. He has a big body and do all the dirty works, but gets criticized a lot by the media for not "grabbing any rebounds". lolz Westbrook is also a horrible off the ball defender, maybe even worse than 2015-2016 James Harden, but most of basketball fans still have an impression that he is a good defender.
That is what they really posted. An impressive stat showing how dominant we are this season thus far.
For real. I was really impressed with CP3 and his passing, and thought "Ah, Harden played solid" Checks box score... Wut.
