Citizen Kane - Booooring. I liked RKO 281 10 times better. If a movie about the movie is better than the original movie, than the movie sucked, I don't care how acclaimed it is. Looking back over the other responses, I can see that I am not alone.
Rear Window. My aunt rented that and told me and my cousin it was a classic suspense thriller. We thought it was hilarious that people were actually scared watching it. that sucked because I really like Jimmy Stewart movies. I have still to this day pledged never to see the movie Titanic. Anything with Celine Dion singing and Old people made me decide I didn't need to see it to decide it was bad.
I'm with you on Rear Window--don't these people have curtains? Titanic is not a classic and never will be. I didn't care for Touch of Evil years ago, but I really should give it another chance, since I think I'd probably enjoy it the second time around. What's with the hate on Kane? Man, that movie is perfect on every single level. And not liking Lawrence of Arabia strikes me as being as perverse as hating Amadeus.
Really? Dang, they are my favorite movies. I read the book and others by Tolkien. I don't read much, but when I picked up LOTR I couldn't put it down.
I'm guessing that your 20 by you ID. Star Wars broke all kinds of ground in the special f/x area. Things were done in that movie that were never seen before. By today's standards, your right, they suck. The only thing that made them special was the f/x. The story was ok, but it's just a rip of the LOTRs. Just keep in mind that Star Wars kicked off the research that created all these cool f/x you see today.
I think that's why I don't like these movies as much as others do, I never read any of the books. I really don't have much interest in the characters because I have a feeling the movie doesn't develop them as much as the books probably do.
You should watch The Empire Strikes Back. It is by far the best of the Star Wars Trilogy, and seeing it for the first time is great (assuming you don't already know how it turns out).
I don't watch many movies, but I am a huge fan of Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick. The Internet Movie Database site ranks "Dr. Strangelove" as Kubrick's greatest movie at #9. I am sorry but I have watched it like 3 times (I have it on video) and I still don't get it. "Barry Lyndon", which many people claim to be Kubrick's worst movie (that one or "Eyes Wide Shut") is infinitely more watchable and enjoyable than Strangelove. I keep hoping that one day I will see what everyone else sees in it (just like I did with "The Simpsons" and "Seinfeld"), but so far it hasn't happened. As for Hitchcock, there really isn't a classic movie of his that I don't enjoy although "The Paradine Case" is a real snoozer but hardly a classic movie. Also, count me as another who can't get into the Godfather stuff.
Gone with the Wind THE THORNBIRDS most movies that are in black and white [black and white gives me a headache] Rocket River
The Shawshank Redemption sucked. I think I'm the only person in this world who doesn't like that movie. It's a pile of poop. -- droxford
That is just... I can't think of what that is. How could you not like that movie? What kind of movies do you like?
