JVG will be on at about 4:25 with Rich and Charlie on SportsRadio610 Charlie really thinks there is a trade eminent due to the fact that JVG doesn't like the talent mix
I hope it's not a forced trade just to make a change. The last thing we need to do is make a bad deal just because we are desperate.
Kinda like that James Posey deal... wait. I really dont know if we did it just for the hell of making a move or not, but it sure seems pretty crappy now. KT is bringing down the boards left and right for Philly and all we have is JJ who cant shoot when freaking earl watson has his hands up gaurding him...
i'm pretty sure jvg will make some smart moves.. just a question: if posey were still here, do you think we'd be a stronger team? and when some of our players are in their slumps, would he be able to lift us up?
do we know if its a major trade involving franchise and/or cat? or is it something much smaller for a bench player of some sort?
I can only think of a few players that we would be willing to trade and actually had any trade value worth mentioning. 1. Cat - He has shown the ability to shut down his opponants and stroke the three. He isn't a team oriented type of SG. He still thinks that he needs to get his points rather than give his teamates points. 2. Cato - He is playing great D, well great D for a player out of position and overly outmatched. He can find a home on any team in the NBA asside the Lakers and Sac. If we trade him, it's for a quality big man who can man the PF position. ie Brian Grant, Boozer, Rasheed, Kurt Thomas, Jamison, Harrington, or Swift. 3. Boki - There isn't a lot of room when Griffin and Pike are put back into the rotation. He has shown some nice moves and a nice shot. Someone is bound to want him. 4. Moochie - Cause Dallas has been able to trade worse players... it just has to be possible.
It will be interesting to see what JVG is going to do from now onwards but I doubt he will reveal anything if a trade is on the cards.
4:25 PM Tuesday. For those that don't live in Houston, I'm sure the interview will be posted on the 610 website by the end of the day. They usually do that. I think Rich is right. I get the feeling JVG and CD are looking to make some kind of move. But you probably won't hear JVG mention anything tomorrow. Frankly, I'm surprised he's even doing this interview, especially after a 1-5 road trip. It's not really his style.
Maybe Van Gundy wants to spark some interest in this game by at least announcing a lineup change. I'm not sure what the attendance will be. This Jazz no longer has Stockton and Malone to draw some of the more casual fans. Combine that with a roadtrip that did not encourage fans to think that this team has really turned the corner. The attendance for this kind of game could dip under 10k. I think Adrian Griffin needs to come back ASAP especially if JJ keeps on bricking jumpers.
It's strange. I swear, the word out before the season opener on 10/30/03 was that Adrian was Day-to-day and coud receive minutes that game. Has he gotten worse since then or what?
As I'm not in Houston, and don;t know how this is being promoted, is this seen as an interview, in other words, no biggie, or are they saying an announcment is imminent?
It sounds like it's just an interview. The trade talk is just an opinion of Charlie so I doubt there will be any kind of announcement.
Can someone please enlighten me on this; i thought Caroll Dawson makes trades and not JVG? Some coaches have imput, even some star players, to what extent is a move made due to imput from JVG? I need to know this to give proper praise/criticism to whoever made the deal? or could one deal be mainly CD, and then the next deal be a lot of JVG? any imput would help, thanks
I think the assumption is that when a new coach comes in, and shortly into the season moves are made, those moves are in large part the result of the coach's dissatisfaction.
And with good reason considering the play as of late. How many times do we have to read in Chronicle articles the quotes from JVG about the team needing to play "intelligently." It seems that quote is in every game article after the game from JVG. Changes are clearly on the way....more likely sooner rather than later. I really think before any trades were to happen JVG wanted to see what type of team he has on the floor. He is seeing it now. This team has the month of December and January to show some improvement or I think before the trading deadline in February there will be some roster moves. Keep Francis and Yao, your two star players, and look to trade Mobley (your best asset) and some role players (Cato, Griffin etc) and perhaps use your 7 Million Dollar Trade Exception to gain a better player. In my opinion this team needs: 1) A guard (starting or bench) that is a pass first ball handler that can play with Francis (as a 2). I am not saying move Francis to the 2 full time but someone that can distribute the basketball to make our offense go. You can start the game with Francis + Pike or Francis + JJ at the guard spots and then bring this New GUARD off the bench and then finish the game with this new GUARD and Francis at the guard spots. Francis needs someone at the other guard spot that meshes well with HIS Game and a pass first, team first player is that type of player. 2) A "star" type forward. Cato and JJ are not getting it done offensively. We need either a SF or PF that can put up close to 15ppg for this team to round out or offense. And I don't think Mo is the player to do that. I like him coming off the bench. This player doesn't necessarily have to be a great defensive player either as long as this team can continue to play great TEAM defense. But offensively we need more scoring punch to go along with Yao and Francis. On nights when one of them is off we need someone else to STEP UP and help carry the load. I am not sure we can obtain both of these types of players with a trade but if we can get one of them and then address the other need in the offseason then so be it. But we need to make some positive moves on this team to have it mesh well with Yao and Francis.
