I know this may sound like a stupid Thread. I hear everyone say that Steve is the best player on the Rockets. But Mobley has been with the team longer than Francis. I mean how come Mobley isnt considered the franchise or the Better Player. Why is that? The stats for both players are identical. Both shoot the ball well. In my mind mobley is an All-Star player.

    it is a nickname.
and francis is the better player. if you have to ask why francis is seen as the player, you should watch the game. i do not know if you have watched alot of games of the rockets. but francis is clearly better

Franchise sounded similar to Francis. So it stuck. The alliteration of it all.

    Stevie Franchise.
Perhaps keeping with the alliteration we can go with "Stevie Foolish with the basketball"?

Or keeping with the "F" alliteration how about these gems?

    Stevie "FFFFFFF pass the basketball"
Stevie "FFFFFFF dont turn it over so much"
Stevie "FFFFFFF let the offense come to you"

    Things to think about.

I dont know which games you have been watching. I dont think Francis is "clearly better" then Mobley so far in this season. At least Cuttino doesn't let rookie 2 guards burn him left and right and then get shut down on the offensive side.

i'm not talking about this season. i'm talking about the last couple of years. and in those i think francis is clearly better. this year francis isn't playing verry good. but he has shown us that he is a great player (atleast can be) IMHO. i also like mobley, the fact that he has adapted to different roles in the team is great. he isa good player. But i believe francis is better

Because of his superior athleticism. Unfortunately the rest of his game hasn't come around.

Cuttino? He's good, but come on, he'll never dominate. Steve does have the potential to dominate.

When will Steve dominate as a PG? I've been waiting for him to take us to the Promised Land ever since he got here and at this point, I have to say that I am a bit ambivalent about his future as our Franchise player.

Here is an interesting note from cbs sportsline:

Francis is one of the better rebounding guards in the NBA and is considered a Rotisserie stud. As the team continues to try to make the Rockets Yao Ming's team, Francis will stubbornly throw up 27 shots. Ming has not had more field goal attempts than Francis yet this season and has only outscored him twice.

Maybe it's time to move Steve to SG. As a PG, he is not meeting the expectations.

$90million make Francis the "Franchise". The question is whether or not that $90million was well spent.

    Francis is a Franchise!!!

He can make a terrible team respectable and dangerous on any given night.

The problem is I don't think he will ever have the complete team oriented game to make a good team into a consistent great one.

Yeah, that's probably something that needs to be talked about more on the BBS. The Rockets organization has consistently made more poor personnel decisions than good personnel decisions in the post-Hakeem era. However, I think the jury is out on the "man-boobs" trade until we find out the extent to which the Rockets will use the salary cap exemption they got in the trade. If Jim Jackson is all, then I say that was a poor decision, no disrespect to Jackson who is a decent role player.

Jim Jackson had nothing to do with the Utah trade. We could have signed JJ to for that money regardless of the trade with Utah. The trade with Utah was to keep Les from possibly paying some Luxury Tax. So right now, the trade is Rice (in his last year contract), our unprotected #1 in next years draft, the Drew obligation (Chicago's #1 next year or their next 2 years 2nd rounders) and cash for Man-boobs and Sac's 2nd rounder. CD doesn't stand for Cunning Dude except in Les' eyes.

i dont think hes big enough to play SG, he would get burned by all the good SGs in the league
i think mobley is doing a great job on the defensive end at least
    as for offense....TOO damn streaky

    What makes Francis the Franchise?

    Tow letters: "h" (highlight-heels) and "e" (ESPN).
