Yes, but teams do prepare in advance though.

That offensive line will have to be revamped or re-signed this summer. Bringing in new blood will cost $

Kevin Johnson has not looked healthy all season.

I'm sure he'll bounce back after a full offseason of training rather than recovery. Lane is most likely going to be a starting nickel corner within a week or so. That's not saying much about our current CB depth.

It has done wonders for Eric Gordon, who was oft injured til last season.

65-75% vs. 95-100% is a huge difference for a NFL starting corner.

    Sort of
    Duane Brown: $9.0 mil
    Jeremy Lane: $6.0 mil
    Excess is $3.0 mil

Cushing would still be around something like $1.2 million vs the cap when cut this summer.

So minus Brown/Cushing savings together comes out to around $10.5 mil....approx. Because Lane negates some.

Lane will be learning the system in the time being, in case the Texans wish to move on from Jonathan Joseph

Sure will. Davenport has been getting a little more action and him stepping up would be absolutely huge for us. Getting anything out of Dorian Johnson would be icing on the cake. I'd resign Mancz and either shell out for the best LT in FA (maybe Solder) or trade up in the draft using the 2nd rounder from the DB trade.

He played fantastic before being hurt last season. But how long do we wait to see if he stops being injury prone?! He’s killing us right now.

Moving on from Joseph to play Lane would be a huge mistake. Lane can barely get on the field because of health and then has played poorly when he did get on the field. More likely that he's cut after the year. If he does show out and we keep him I hope it's because Kareem is moving to safety.

Hard to say, hopefully nothing major occurs this season.

But I'm holding out some hope for him. Marcus Peters would have been legit on this defense. Stupid McFlair and his off-field issues bias!

Wonder if we could trade that future 2nd rounder to the Colts for Vontae Davis. He would be a HUGE boost to our DB corps.

Forgot about Lane's $6M but wonder how viable he'll be, never a good sign when you get beat out by a rookie.

But believe Cushing's savings would still be $8.5 after the dead money and Brown was due $9.75 so still a little over $12M in savings. Much more if Lane is cut obviously.

True, but I'd rather trade with a non-contending team even if they are in our division.

If I'm reading that right, the Pats want to package the 49ers 2nd + Butler for a player, not another pick.

Would they enjoy a gently used Brian Cushing?

Yes, excuse my fuzzy math. Brown is $9.75 next year according to Spotrac Houston Texans.

Cushing is $1.2 million in dead money vs cap if released at seasons end.

Texans are currently $12.2 million under the cap.

Some left tackles in free agency this summer: UFA
Solder $10 million 29 years old
    Greg Robinson $ 5.3 mil 25 y/o
    Donald Stephenson $2.5 mil 29 y/o

    Right tackles: UFA
    Garry Gilliam 2.2 mil 26 y/o
    Byron Bell $2.0 mil 28 y/o

Decent Guards shouldn’t be more than $5 million, hopefully. I believe Jeff Allen is around $6 mil+

I guess the space is there with no Su’a-Filo, Clarke, Newton, Giacomini, Duane Brown

But I can see why the Texans did this deal. If Lane doesn’t pan out then they can cut him with “No dead money cap hit”
Then rebuild the line and get some more DB’s

    According to Houston Texans Spotrac:
201/19 season salary cap. $34.6 million under the salary cap if the Texans do not re-sign any of their own FA’s.
That includes Clowney salary rise from $7.1 mil to 13.9 million in scheduled increase for 18/19 season.

Add: Newton $5.5 mil & no dead money if released
........Cushing $ $9.7 mil. $1.2 million vs cap in dead money if released at seasons end= $8.5 mil difference
    ........Clark $3.3 mil (UFA)
    ........Giacomini $ 2.3 mil (UFA)
    ........Xavier Su’a-Filo $1.8 mil (UFA)

.........Jeremy Lane $6.0 mil & no dead money if released
    ________________________________________
......................27.4 million could be added to the $34.6 mil.= $62 million in cap space.

But then that money would need to be used in replacing:
    Newton
    Cushing
    Jeremy Lane
    Chris Clark
    Giacomini
    Xavier Su’a-Filo
    Mancz
    Peters
    Jonathan Joseph
    Gilchrist
    Marcus Williams
    Pleasant
    Drummond
    Lechler.......among some others

Solder may be $10 million-plus as he is currently earning $10
