hmmm...I've always thought that, in size at least(Quality of board/posters is much better over here), we were comparable to nancies.org, and they come in at #63. 4 DMB boards on the list!
I don't think this list is complete (cannot find Flyertalk there, for instance). It goes to show what a powerful form of communication message boards are, though. What I would be interested in would be pageview numbers. And which of these message numbers sell ads and what their adfill rate is, and their CPM. I suspect it will be non-existent or low in most cases. Actually, I think message boards could be monetized a lot better than what is currently the case in many cases, as the inventory is rather targeted.
For what it's worth, it was pointed out to me that you can submit message boards that have over 50,000 members and they'll review them. I went ahead and submitted this place, so we might be on there sooner or later...
I've already submitted clutchcity numerous times. The problem is this site can't be accessed without registering. They don't allow sites to be listed that do this.
"i]"If you know of a large message board that does not appear in our rankings, you can submit its URL here. Keep in mind that big-boards.com only monitors rankings for the largest boards on the web, therefore before submitting a url you must check that it fits the following requirements: Board must have at least 500000 posts. The registration process for accessing the board must be free of charges, or the post and members count must be accessible without registering."[/i] It only says that the sites can't charge to register, not that they have to be accessible without registration...
Wow, that's pretty cool. It's neat to see how many of those I read/post in now, and how many of them I used to post in, but don't any more . . . I had no idea some of these are so big . . .
Wish it would let me sort on the BBS software used. Would be much esier to count the number of sites using VBulletin.
