http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1673766 Wow, he's apparently going to Arizona ... today! Apparently, he'll stay for the B12 championship but be gone for the national title game.
Bob's said he wants Mike back for the Bowl game....we'll see... Good luck Mike, you've confused Texas many a time...now show the Pac-10 how defense is REALLY played.
You know, I'm really thinking he wishes that he would have waited a few more days to accept the Arizona job. Nebraska suddenly has a coaching vacancy and I bet they would have been interested at least.
Couple of points: Arizona hasn't always been this bad, and in their "Desert Swarm" years they had as feared of defense in the land with great players like of Chris McAlister, Darlly Lewis, Teddy Brueski (sp?), Chuck Cecil, Ricky Hunley and Rob Waldrop. Stoops is smart enough to capitilize on this tradition. As fast as Oregon, Oregon State, & Washington State became good programs from terrible ones, Arizona should be even better. They have a whole lot more to offer weather wise and are a lot closer to recruiting bases in Southern Califonia, Arizona and even Texas (Stoops connections) where right now only USC is the only Pac-10 program they really can't compete with. Let's say you are a fine athletic kid from Los Angeles whom USC has overlooked but drawn interest from Oregan State, Washington State, Arizona State and Arizona. I'd take may chances Stoops lands the kid. I'd expect Stoops to have the 2nd or 3rd best program in the Pac-10 in 3 years, and if Carrol leaves USC--Arizona has a shot at being the best program in 4 or 5. The potential is there, just have to wait and see if Mike can be nearly as effective as Bob. As far is Lincoln, I don't know how well that would go with the Stoops at fierce rivals--it is smarter to go to different regions.
