I finally got my dvd burner hooked up and like what I can do now. I just can't get over the prices of blank dvds. I feel like I've been jail raped after buying them. I mean, can they really cost that much more to make than a regular blank cd?
It's not that they cost so much to make, it's that there is no big demand for them yet. CD's have never been as cheap as they are now. In a year or so I am sure DVDs will be just as cheap.
The prices have come down, too, since they first started being offered. I do recall that CD-R prices were considerably higher than now when they first hit the market as well. But just like the drives themselves have gotten less expensive, I'm sure the same will happen with the media.
They won't be as cheap because soon marketers will realize that DVD-R's will be used for new DVD REcorders instead of overpriced and pointless DVD-RW's. I think they'll be as expensive as VCR tapes soon.
No kidding. I'm still using the spindles of "free after rebate" CD-R's I've had for the past 2 years (over 200 of them). I remember just about 2 or so years ago a blank DVD-R cost about $10-$15 each.
Exactly. I have about 100 CD-R's left that cost me about $2.50 (after rebates). I am sure that DVD-R/RW's will come down in price. It will just take a while. The more people that buy DVD Burners and have a need for the blank discs, the more cheap they will become. "Supply and Demand"
In all honesty, the cheapest I've seen name-brand DVD-R's is a little less than $2 for Memorex. But you can get generic DVD-R's for $0.60 a pop.
The last time I bought DVD-Rs... actually they were DVD+Rs because that's the kind of drive I have.... I ending up paying $1 per disc after rebate. The in-store price was something like $1.50, maybe. That was many months ago. After having my DVD+R writer for about six months, I've found that I've burned maybe four or five discs. Because they are relatively expensive, compared to CD-Rs, I find I am more careful about using them.
HO JESUS!!! I just got the sneek preview to Office Max in the e-mail. Starting, well today: MICRO ADVANTAGE Dual Format DVD+/-RW... $79.99 Yes, I know, Micro Advantage, but stilllllllll. $120 in savings.
I bought one Friday at Fry's for $80, no rebate, and i only stood outside for 15mins and got out of there in 10 mins, well worth it for me.
for some reason, I just cant seem to bring myself to use "no-name" DVD-Rs. Call me a snob, but when it comes to electronics and media, i stick with name brands. Memorex and Verbatim are my prime choices. Just bought a new 50 spindle last week...99 bucks. but dang, it sure is nice to be able to copy my vhs tapes to DVD.
That actually was a 2-day sale. They had them still on sale on Saturday. Heck, I just looked and they still have them at that price, but I doubt the rebate is still valid. That's a big rebate you're banking on getting for that price.
