Well at least it wasn't the worst game in the NBA (Spurs @ Lakers).

Everybody please don't get angry yet. Spurs is losing by 30 to Lakers in only 3 quarters even they have Duncan and Parker. Do you think we are much better than a defending champion? I don't think so. We even don't make playoff last year.

I believe Spurs fans should be much more disappointing than us.

Man, I don't even have to see the Rockets play(I don't have league pass) to know how TERRIBLE their doing tonight because the Spurs are doing the exact same thing tonight vs. the Lakers.

    Functional vs. Disfunctional Offenses

    Exhibit A.
    Rockets - 11 assists
    Kings - 33 assists

    need I say more . . .

Okay, I just want to start off by saying that I didn't see the game. I just took a look at the box score.

    The Kings had 33 assists.

    The Rockets had ten.
Top that off with a low shooting percentage, and the problem, on paper, is obvious.

This means that our backcourt is too top heavy with scoring talent/tendancies. YOu can't have too scorers in the backcourt. At least, one of them has to be a predominant passer--and that person needs to be the point guard. Cat and Francis are two great players, and when Rudy T was around, they were great together (for a lottery team), but if they want to be an elite team, one of them HAS to go, or one of them has to drastically change, and since the past four years and the past 5 games showed that the latter just won't happen, one of them has to go. I say, Keep Francis and move him to the two, and try to get a pure point guard. We dont' need an all-star point guard, just a solid, passing point guard. Steve is a scorer, and perhaps he would score more if he were in a position where the team wouldn't be relying on him for passes. He'll be able to play to his strengths, and probably even improve on them, instead of having his strengths work against him--and the Steve critics will back off, since most of the griping comes from him neglecting the traditional point guard duties.

Once again, the backcourt is too top heavy with scoring talent/tendancies. If one guard is a scorer, the other has to be more of a passer than a scorer. If one guard dribbles a lot, the other guard has to be light and quick and smart with the ball. The latter qualities HAVE to be born by the point guard. And a good point guard needs to be get double figures or near double figures in the assist category every game.

If you look at all the great scoring point guards (I.E. Magic Johnson, Isiah), you'll notice that scoring still came second. Their assist averages were monstrous.

I think we should keep both Cat and Francis. Move Cat to the bench (for the time being). Move Steve to the two. Trade someone like Boki and maybe Meech for a solid, role-playing point guard.

That's one option. There are others. But I'll stop myself.

I'm not sure if anyone realizes this, but before Rudy T was fired, Gary Payton listed the Rockets as his top choice of teams for the next season. When Rudy T left, he crossed them off the top of his list. Gary Payton. Veteran leadership, playoff experience, assertive force on the court, and someone that would be able to control Francis at the two. Not to mention someone that would be up Yao's behind like an animal until Yao would start to play like one. This isn't something I like to think about too often.

I see alot of people mention low assists and automatically assume that the backcourt players are not passing the ball. Although at times that might be true alot of times I see alot of potential assists where the player receiving the pass is simply not making the easy shot -- therefore no assist.
The point is when Rockets start making the wide open shots and layups they will have more assists...

Good point. I didn't watch the game, but I totally forgot about that possibility. Still, something sucks either way. If it's not the passing, it's the shooting. Somebody send our team to basketball camp.

Well, you're obviously not denying it now, are you? But I'll stop, if I'm hitting too close to home.
