The Giles move was really inexplicable to me. A six run lead and you bring your closer in which limits him in game 7. I know the bullpen has been a dumpster fire but someone has to be able to get three outs before they give up six runs.
I think your ignoring the psychology of it all. If someone else had come in and gave up 3-4 runs, sure, we still won, but they the Yankees would come away feeling better about their chances today. As things are, they might be thinking that the monster has reawakened and their chances today are not so good. Many things being discussed right now like momentum, plate approach, mental midgitry and so on all have their roots in psychology. Closing them out and winning big yesterday was a good thing even if the cost might be Giles for one inning rather than two.
Another issue was that he was already warming up to come in in the 8th inning so might as well bring him in for the 9th. Also, had they brought in anyone else and a couple of guys had gotten on, they would have brought in Giles anyway.
