Watching the Rockets game tonight on KNWS 51, I was AMAZED at the sound level of the crowd at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. It might have been the sound technicians not leveling it down, but MY GOODNESS were they loud! A roar after every basket, a cheer after every defensive stop, a loud, raucous chorus of boos after every foul.

What's my point? Obviously there have been plenty of other threads talking about the lack of any sort of noise at Toyota Center, and almost any Rockets home game. But listening to those fans in Utah, I was very surprised. Of course, one could argue that the reason the fans are so into their team is because they are surprisingly overachieving...but the same can be said about the Rockets. First year coach, new systems on offense and defense, and they're 2nd in the midwest? That's quite an accomplishment.

So I have a plea for all of those who are going to the game: PLEASE REPRESENT HOUSTON AND THE ROCKETS BY SHOWING THE UTAH FANS WATCHING ON TV AT HOME HOW WE BACK OUR TEAM. I mean, anyone who watched the game would agree with me: those fans were insanely loud, almost Arco Arena levels at times. So let's return the favor on Wednesday when they come into town.

PS- Anyone watch the post game with Bill and Calvin interviewing AK-47? Honestly, I still hate the Jazz, but he is one of the most exciting young players out there, and he's modest and pretty witty. Besides, watching a young player buy into the team first mantra is great. And 3 blocks for him tonight, what a beast.

They have always been extremely supportive of their team...at least as far back as I can remember. No matter whether it's a preseason, regular season or playoff game, their fans show up ready for some basketball.

No, I didn't watch the interview with AK-47. Can you give me a recap?

But uhh..yeah I wish the TC was that loud and exciting and involved like Arco or AAC. But it's not!

Would people still go if Francis was not a Rocket anymore?

Utah doesn't have a star..and still so many people. Maybe they went to see Yao!

They live in Salt Lake City, Utah. What else are they going to yell about?

Plus their team outplayed, outcoached and outclassed us tonight.

I was really pissed off and raging mad at Franchise for playing dumb and his shoes still hurt my feet.

But the interview really lightened me up. I'm glad Flopton and Elbows Malone are gone cause there's a lot less hatred for the Jazz by me now.

Kirelenko was really open and honest and fun and speaking fluent english. He talked about how he learned "Wisdom-Basketball" from the years he was with Flopton and Malone, everything on the court and learning prepartion techniques off the court.

He talked about Jerry Sloan being a real defensive player in his day and how he's trying to project how he played into the way the Jazz play now.

He talked about how he just wants to win, but that it is more fun now that he gets to take more shots. Calvin kept telling him that he was The Man and that Kirelenko is the star now. AK was humble about it.

Bill asked him if he knew about Calvin Murphy and he said no. All he knew of growing up was MJ.

It was a really different interview from the regular post games ones.

Bill and Calvin were having fun and laughing as usuall, but AK-47 is breath of fresh air. He wasn't stoik or shy and humble (like the post game Rockets guy said--that was dumber than anything Cooper said, Cooper is his partner). AK was just really fun and light-mooded and honest.

He talked about how the first time he met Yao was in the Sydney Olympic games and he was like "wow" this guy is a giant.

Bill kept laughing and poking fun at Calvin b/c AK never heard of him, and Calvin said he'd send AK some video footage jokingly, but AK was like "sure, please, I'd really like to watch it."

They both praised him a lot and said he's a pleasure to watch grow up and become a future superstar.

I'm really a fan of his now, b/c along with being an atletic freak who can shoot the 3 (and airball the 3 at the same ratio), AK hustles and is a really nice, open, and funny guy from the interview at least.

Calvin and Bill were both telling him not to listen to the other guy and he pointed his fingers to his head and made a buzzing sound...similar to when you make a cukoo motion with both fingers...same effect.

    how about delta center employees?

i don't know if any of you noticed, but i believe it was in the first quarter when yao missed his first foul shot of the game (those of you how recorded the game can hear it). as soon as he missed it, the audio guy hit the button for a sound effect that sounds like a mallet hitting a gong. how tacky was that?

if it's the same guy that came up with the "walk like a nigerian" sound effect during the hakeem days... that mofo needs to be fired.

    tasteless b*stard.

I couldnt agree more. That interview was awesome. No ego. Very enthusaistic, very sincere.

I am now an Andrei Kirelinko Only Fan. Someone hook me up with a Jazz board so I can start 100 Trade Matt Harpring threads -freakin ball hog.

I sure as hell noticed that, and was thinking the same
    thing, wtf?!
At least Yao drained nearly 20 free throws that game.

You mean "walk like an Egyptian" ? Or was a soundbyte with words played that used "Nigerian"? What a b*stard!

I think it has a lot to do with the way the Jazz have been playing way over their head this season. Coming in to the season Jazz fans probably had very low expectations and the Jazz have been kind of the cinderella story of the season. It’s a lot easier for sports fans to cheer for a team that is overachieving the way the Jazz have. They have a fun team that out-works, out-hustles, and out-think their opponents.

On the other hand, the Rocket had very high expectations from the fans and despite the record, the play from the Rockets has been very ugly this season.

i was at the game. When Yao had one of his rare freethrow misses, they put up "brick" in chinese in the jumbotron.

Jazz fans are idiots. I hate living in this city that has had such success in the game, yet its populous knows nothing about the game. I hate the flop and hearing the cliche's about how the Jazz don't need a star because they have heart. Give me a break. Scottie Brooks had heart, but did it get him much playing time.

You would have thought that it was the 2000 allstar game again and Kobe was getting booed every time he touched the ball. The fans at the DC take every foul personally. When SF had that foul on AK the whole place exploded. You would have though it was another Kermit Washington situation. I think the lady next to me (who was the annoying play-by-play type fan pulled out her 9mm cause the #%^$ was going down.

I really hope the Rockets smoke these chumps next week in Houston.
