I friend of mine told me today that he heard an interesting trade rumor on ESPN radio. He said that the Lakers have talked to the Rockets re: trading Kobe for Franchise and Cat. I think this is BS. I know the trade deadline has passed, and isn't Cattino a free agent at the end of the season? Has anyone heard anything about this or is this total BS. (My buddy is a big Mav fan and may just be yanking my chain.) I can't find anything on the ESPN or NBA websites.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your responses. I also am in Austin and my friend said he heard it on ESPN radio here today. (I guess on 1300.) Has anyone else heard this or is ESPN radio just spewing baseless crap?

I personally would NOT do that trade. Kobe is a malcontent and not a team player. Maybe Kobe and Shaq (we could throw in Cato). Just kidding- that was a joke.

By the way how many years is Cuttino signed for, I thought that maybe it was only a 1 year deal with big contract to come?

They may have called, but I'm betting Rudy would honor the family environment and chemistry before ever doing something as narrow sighted as acquiring Kobe.

Kobe should be traded to Toronoto. Toronto would lock up their future for the next 6 or 7 years and not have to worry about Vince heading South.

I wouldn't trade either of them for Kobe. Both? What a funny joke.

The question is would you do the deal. To Me I can see the lakers offering Kobe for Francis and Mobley, but I think that is too much to give up. Kobe is good but not that good. The only players I would consider trading them for is Duncan or maybe KG but not Kobe.

Find me a player who can average 40+ pts, 12 reb, 9 ast, and 3 stl from the backcourt. Add in a never-say-die, team first, ice-in-the-veins attitude, then we talk about trading Steve and Cuttino.

Until then, why don't you take a look at Kelvin Cato and Walt Williams, I'm sure we can work something out for those two.

I would love it if Kobe is in Toronto. If they hada franchise in Buffalo, that would be even better.

wierd, kidrock... i thought the same thing- send him somewhere quiet where he could write music, as he seems to want to do.
PJZen's ego must be weary from dealing with a youngster who thinks he's smarter than his coach, and is starting to tune him out. I heard he was sick of having books shoved down his throat.
Detroit never thought of trading Thomas/Dumars for 'Nique... nor should the rocks consider such foolishness. Kobe, the black hole of the Laker's offense...

Francis and Kobe in the same backcourt? That should be against league rules.

Heh - how about Shandon, Walt and Cato for Kobe?

That would be one sick offense to defend against, and Kobe can play decent D when he wants to =)

I heard about it, But that's what you call a long shot! Considering his fat check. Big mistake and try to focus on the C-Webb and I think we gut a very good shot of this guy.

They should ship Kobe to somewhere like Cleveland or Atlanta, or better yet, back to Charlotte, so maybe the whole world won't be kissing his ass anymore. He had the making to be an all-time great, but it's now evident that he'll just be a flash in the pan. The next MJ? Surely you jest.
