Just finished watching this game. Playing Harden and Ariza 36+ minutes is so stupid. How does bringing Harden in the closing minute and have him go iso help anyone? Preseason is for figuring out rotation and finding out which one of our scrub guards is the least sucky. I dont know if Isiah Taylor or the others can play but i know Bobby bucket is straight trash. How does Harden taking contested 3 against an unathletic white guard accomplish anything?

There is only one roster spot up for grab right now and thats the 4th guard and it seems like we aint gonna get one.

I can say Taylor aint ready yet, his Summer league games were ok but not impressive. Going against real competition or at least 2nd to 3rd stringers, he sucked.

Regarding Harden's minutes, my friend asked Dantoni what's the reason and he said Harden wanted that extra minutes to get himself into shape.
And that Paul will play Wednsday.
    So good news

lol at people criticizing the decision to play the high minutes when it was the players themselves that are using it to get into game shape.

Call me crazy, but I honestly think the Rockets were purposely trying to crap all on the Knicks for the Melo situation. If the resentment is still here for me, I know it's there for Harden, CP3 & Morey. Daryl probably told James "go ahead and kill them James"

plus Harden played a very easy 38 minutes...he exerted little effort because he didn't need to

he walked the ball up the court almost every time, took some threes, and dunked a few times...he barely broke a sweat

weird, they have all the training camp to do so, the preseason games are a good time to put in your reserves to see which one is reliable and can be further developed during the season, i don't see any the other contending teams playing their starters that many minutes in that many more game, maybe one game, but not 3 straight game, it only proves that MD is a horrible coach...... should have told harden what are you doing in our training camp

training camp is not the same thing as game shape. we just saw all of the GS core play 30 mins each a couple of days ago. calm down. horrible coach lol ok

the fact that the preseason games were shortened which is what a lot of people wanted, forces this to happen. so which is it? more pre season games so they dont play as much or less preseason games, where they may need to pick up the minutes to get in shape quicker

36 mins isn't that bad it's like their regular season minutes. Has it ever occurred to you MDA is trying to ease the players into their regular season minutes?

There's nothing you can "figure out" in just 1 game what if Bobby bucket was feeling it that night you keep him over everyone else? 1 game is too small a sample size to base decisions on, like you said the Rox only had 1 roster spot left so they probably already know who they will keep. The Rockets like most teams put more stock on what they see in camp and practice then a singe game that doesn't really mean anything.

Not even then..with our depth, there’s no reason for it. We won’t beat the Warriors anyway in case you think the difference is Harden playing 38 or 30-34 minutes.

Game shape is different than what you do in practices/training camp.

Harden is notorious for this, he always wants to play basketball, if he's available to play he doesn't want to sit on the bench for half the game preseason or not.

Personally I don't have a problem with it. Now if cp3 was doing this than ya that's not good but harden is 28 and has that Lebron type body he's built for the heavy lifting, not many players like those two. Maybe Kawi is another and possibly draymond green but that's it.

Just because you think we can't beat the Warriors doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Hell, we beat them the first game last season in their house. There are 81 games after that anyway.

It's not about that, it's about thinking playing Harden, Ariza and maybe CP3 for 38 minutes as opposed to 30-34 maybe will make a great difference in getting them in shape for the Warriors game and in that game will be the difference between winning and losing.

the best way to get into game shape is the play in games. we got a lot of new guys so its more important to build chemistry within the core rotation than it is to see what guys can make the team. We are contenders, got to get our guys gelling from the start. they will be fine, not like they're playing back to back or anything
