Whats the fastest you've ever driven and why? Or where were you when you decided to push the limits of your vehicle?

The fastest I've done so far was about 97. I was on a Turnpike in Kansas headed to my grandma's house. Kansas is all flat plains wheat fields and farms. Not a very fun drive. I wanted to break 100 but something kept telling me dont do it. Plus I was driving a Mazda MPV with my mom, sister and little brother all asleep.

I did 105 in my Toyota Celica once. That's as fast as she would go. I was on I-40 between Albuquerque and Amarillo.

I remember getting up to 108 in a Nissan NX1600 I had once. Also as fast as it would go. I was somewhere along the road between Abilene and Fort Worth, I think.

But that's just the fastest I've driven. I've ridden in the car with my father when he was testing out his new 911 Turbo back in high school. From my vantage point in the passenger seat, it appeared we broke 150 on I-40 through Amarillo. And the car still had room to go faster.

I regularly get from Houston to Austin in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

    You do the math.

    90. I rarely break the speed limit. But I just had to do that once.

I think 90 is the average speed on the Dallas North Tollway during the morning commute.

I'm surprised you're here to tell about it. That's dangerously fast. It takes me about 2.5 hours to get from Westlake to Sugar Land, driving at about 80.

You mean it actually moves? I thought that freeway was for people that wanted to pay a toll to sit in traffic.

128 In the US. I think i was going about 138 in Germany on the autobahn. Amazing once your at that speed for around 30 minutes, with cars passing you, your speed feels more like 50 mhp.

    At 6:30am it moves fast.

I took a class in Arlington this summer that started at 8am, so I was on the Tollway before the usual rush hour times.

Personally, I've been stuck in traffic far less often on the Tollway than on the other Dallas highways (save the George Bush). I35 and North Central are far worse when I've tried them (North Central's problem being most the High Five construction).

If they had finished the leg of the Bush to connect the two pieces together, I would've gone that way (and 183 to 360).

110 MPH on 288 going to Angleton in my Toyota T-100. The truck was brand new and was shaking pretty intensely. I doubt I could get it to go that fast again.

Sweet. A "poll" I may finally win, unless there are some race car drivers out there.

156 mph on 1488 north of the Woodlands. Apparently there are lights there now, but about 8 years ago there weren't and that is one wide, gradually curving road, with U-turns every fifty feet. Took out my dad's mid-life crisis (Porsche 911), and just punched it up and down 1488 for about an hour or two, back and forth. Top speed was 156 exactly as that model had a digital speedometer. A Ferrari Testarosa (sp?) came out to join us about mid way through, he wasn't racing at first until I caught up to him going about 90 - I literally saw the dude look in his rear view mirror as I approached and then he just took off. To the Porsche's credit, I did catch up on some of the curves, but probably only because I was taking some of those at 110 and he was probably slowing down, but heck, that's the reason you buy a Porsche 911 - the handling.

I had an Acura Legend Coupe up to about 130 ish once...it wouldn't go any faster.

Oddly, I don't drive that fast anymore - just did a lot when I was younger.

I'm boring - doubt I've really gone much over 90, and that happens just when you're passing people on the highway or otherwise aren't paying attention.

Of course, my truck speedometer only goes up to 85. I know I've gone faster than that (again, just when passing people, losing track, etc.) but I'll never know how much.

~ 156 miles/h several times (250 km/h) on the German Autobahn, in different rental cars (Mercedes, BMW, etc.) (the top speed is usually regulated, so they cannot drive faster than 250 km/h - that is different in some Porsche cars, a friend of mine has a 911 and regularly drives up to 300 km/h).

I don't mind driving that fast when I am the driver, there is not much traffic and road conditions are good, so I have done it many times.

However, I hate it when I am on the passenger side.

I think about this one every time I get on a bike, and it scares the crap out of me:

About 18 yrs ago, 120 on a Suzuki Intruder on a dark, loney road between El Campo and the Gulf at dusk. I looked down and realized how close I was to the asphalt and let go of the throttle. Whew!

I have NO desire to ever reach that speed again.
