I don't think Ipa is a stupid person, but he is profoundly stupid in the D&D. Not even worth addressing from the two posts I read.

Good post and I already many of your questions. Walk-in clinics is a great start to help destroy current norms at least for wellness and non terminal sicknesses. Also overseas generics and things like more otc and teledoc prescriptions. Much more difficult for terminal illnesses and I don't have an answer. No one does because healthy care lobby will always pass laws that allow ending or suspending coverages for various reasons.

Also I believe nothing is free but large groups can pool resources and create market pressure and buying power. That said 9m not enough and segregating coverages weakens power. Scrap them all, medicade, medicare, chip, etc... all of them and have no plans. Everyone covered birth to death. Now I also believe that will never happen so see my other posts recommending how to survive in this world we live in.

Walk-in clinics is innovative and we should have more of those, but do know what they are. They are for acute care. They often have no DR present. For the common cold, ear aches, minor stitch, etcs - they work and I personally use them (or urgent care) because of less wait time, weekend availability, but not cost. Cost isn't that much less than my regular Dr visit. For any services that require Dr, is complicated or is an emergency, walk-in clinics do not work.

There are also urgent care which are similar to walk-in clinic, but treat a bit more. Still acute care only.

There are also full care with a Dr that is essentially paid for by a large corporation. Another step up from urgent care, but now you are running into some similarity and differences. They have limited hours, they can cost less than even walk-in clinic, but they are also mainly for acute care. With a single or two dr, they aren't your "family DR".

As I mentioned before, regular cares aren't outrageous. What we haven't been able to slow down are specialize cares, surgery, drugs, etc...

And all these lower cost options are not enough medical care - they are for regular cares. When you run into an emergency or a large health issue, that's when cost kill you. And without insurance or coverage, you literally have no good option, unless you are at the very top that can afford any medical costs straight out of your pocket.

you must have insurance because my family general practice (we've had several) and my kids as well, $125 to $200 for a visit without insurance. walk-ins, $15 to $50 no insurance has been my experience.

like i said, scrap all the damn programs and have none except the one that includes the buying and negotiating power of all americans.

It's craven b.s. pandering to his wealthy donors and there's no real pretense about it. The people who still shill for him will have their day of reckoning.

As Tonto said to the Lone Ranger as they looked over a valley of 1000 braves..."Who is 'we', white man?"

We have priorities...like the 700 Billion for the Pentagon that the DOD expressly does not want.

But yeah, let's take away doctors and food for poor kids. It's a brilliant ****ing plan, Walter, it's a Swiss watch.

I think he's lost his mind. Incredible. This Republican Congress may set a record for the most incompetent group of fools in modern US history. The people here attempting to make excuses for that incompetence are like scrap paper blowing down a deserted street. Garbage.

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting. I think that our political system is in need of a massive overhaul, tbh. I've felt this way for a very long time.

There needs to be term limits on all of these people, not just the president.

Those are all reasonable. $15 to $200. Again, because of what they provide - acute care that are usually performed by nurses.

Which one has "buying and negotiating power of all Americans"? If you scarp all programs except that, what's that and what is left? And how would that "take over" what's left behind by scraping all other programs? If you said go back to walk-ins and the like, I already explain that's only for acute cares and is woefully inadequate. If you think you can supplement that with ER, that doesn't work. ER will treat your emergency, then kick you out - you won't have any sustained care for treatment of sustained medical condition (and anyone that doesn't pay for that extremely expensive bill will ruin their credit).

There are only two conclusions I can draw to explain why CHIP was discontinued. 1. This is Hillary's baby as 1st Lady and the success of the program makes the current administration look bad. 2. The next trash legislation proposed by the GOP intended to replace ACA will now have CHIP legislation in it. This way when the media points out how horrible the next proposed healthcare bill will be, Congressmen can say the media doesn't care about uninsured children. They created an additional healthcare crisis to justify whatever horrible healthcare legislation they're trying to pass will get enough votes.

    This article cites

Contrast with the tally of no votes, having funding for CHIP in Arizona expire by year's end could force McCain's hand to vote yes the next time healthcare legislation is proposed, even if it still ends up being a POS. Likewise for every single senator cited as Unsure or counted as a No vote.

    CNN article on Graham-Cassidy Bill

Every senator in bold cited as unsure or voted no on Graham-Cassidy Healthcare bill will be without CHIP funding in less than a week or less than a year's time. Wanna talk nefarious politicizing at the expense of kid's lives? GOP has no shame. That said, it's the perfect talking point for the GOP. Think of the children! That we negligently sabotaged into a crisis. Ignore those details. They don't matter.

You realize the two party system has been in place in the United States since LONG before the '70s, right?

At this point, it's clear this breed of GOP are impotent talkers.

I guess when Eisenhower, not long before he left office, warned the nation to beware the power of the military-industrial complex, lobbyists weren't powerful? They were powerful then, just as they were a decade, two decades later, and are today. I'm not sure where you got this idea of yours. In my opinion, it's without foundation.

I would argue it is more a function of 2 more highly homogeneous parties than we have ever had with the lobbyists there to suck off the teat.

If a family can’t afford health insurance then how in the hell can they afford to go out of country for viable medical treatment?

dude flights and hotel in mexico are super cheap and there are so many options. flights to DF and MTY are routinely under $200.

also for expats who decide to travel and maybe stay longer including working in mexico, they have universal healthcare program called IMSS. they also have Seguro Popular which is their universal healthcare plan for citizens which is available to expats as dual nationals. of course they also have private insurance too and it's way cheaper than here in the states. so suffice to say you have many many options and much cheaper healthcare.

now ask yourself why? why public and private options for everyone? why is heart surgery in usa is 150-250k while in mexico 20-30k? What about hip replacement 50k vs 15k. How about oncology treatments, yea Mexico is about 80% less too. Why? there are a few key reasons, go look them up.

btw... places like india is even cheaper but flights more expensive. one crazy example, a well known chemo drug in usa is like 70k while 2k in india.

so yes, poorer countries that are our neighbors, can get healthcare done in government relatively easily give multiple cheap options for it's citizens and visitors. why?
