Hindsight is 20/20 but I think it was a mistake not going after Chris Sale

Marwin could bat 2nd or 3rd on many teams in the MLB. This is some great depth we have now.

    Thanks Morey, errr Lunhow.

Verlander looks like 2016 Verlander. What ever was ailing him earlier in the season looks fixed. Looking like Verlander's mechanics were fixed in Detroit and Astros got a great deal.

Exactly! The Astros arguably have one of the best all time hitting lineups, and weren't even supposed to score 4 runs vs. Sale on average. That said, Verlander is still a very damn good pitcher but just not quite on Sale's level right now, which is fine.

Verlander has out-pitched Sale over the last month. We also gave up nothing in the way of prospects, while Sale would have cost us half of our top 10. Timing is everything.

Uh, what? The Astros gave up their number 3, 9 and 11 prospects.

A lot of fair-weather fans coming out of the woodwork. But, it doesn't matter. It's nice seeing more interest because that means the Astros are really good. :)

Haha! Complete brain fart on that one! I should have said we didn't give up near the amount that Sale would have cost.

No. It was just a long day and my brain was tired (or distracted by the Astros success). I think I was remembering the Maybin deal, for whatever dumb reason.

Think we all will be sweating if this gets back to Sale whether we admit to it or not, the guy is a legit hall of fame stud. Verlander will need to be on task.

Paying 48 or so million of Verlander's contract is worth more than those prospects.

Not sure where you are getting $48 million. The Tigers are paying $8 million each of the next two years.

About 8 this year (could be off a few here) + 56 next two - 16 Detroit paying.

The opportunity cost of signing ~48 million dollars worth of free agents by agreeing to pay Verlander's contract minus 16 million is more valuable than those prospects.

I’m trying to decipher the verbiage... but I think all you’re trying to say is that Justin Verlander at 2.3 years $48 million is worth more than those 3 prospects?
