Well the spirit about my suggestion, is that you get back the team you had now, so if the option is made that it is computer simmed to the current date, that if the computer have done some trades, you'd reverse them manually - then fix the talent ratings for all players that differ from what is now. I guess we could even put up a thread after all the trades are put in if you'd like to keep the current computer simmed talent (it would be different, some better some worse) or go back to what we had before the crash. Me for one know that unless some crazy development happened for other players I'd want to get Pickel and Hermida restored. What is with this is you take the good with the bad. If you want to restore them to what we have now, you restore all talents, bad developments and good, and also take away all developments that happened in fast sim mode. This way you dont have to worry about good computer offers pre 7/22 as you will be restored to the players/talent you had no matter what - so no need to be told about player offers you would not be allowed to keep. I guess my suggestion was to sim to the trade deadline - that would take away on 9 day sim of possible t-devs for all teams - but thems the breaks.
Also important to remember, this was just a suggestion I came up with. Chuck has yet to say how the current plan for restoring it is going, and if he thinks this suggestion is the way to go if it goes bad.
Chuck, I'll put my vote down here (if it matters). My first and formost concern is that this problem is fixed. I am not at all opposed to have a slight delay in the OOTP to have tech service take a look to see if the problem is a bug. If the problem is a bug this could become an on-going issue and one that need to be niped-in-the-bud NOW! I read the other opinions and while I too hate seeing some trades/t-devs go down the drain, I AM NOT IN FAVOR of doing an manul changing of ratings. I vote to do whatever is necessary (short of a restart) to solve the problem, and if that includes restaring of 2006 then so be it. Trades can be re-done and what you might lose in some t-dev's who will gain in others. I have no doubt Chuck will do the right thing, and what is in the best interest of the league.
He finished Odalis' career with one blister. The effort alone to salvage 2006 is steadily increasing his amusement.
I guess I'll state my valued opinion as well Being new to the sim, obviously I don't have the time invested in it that some here do. I understand that a manager who has put a lot of thought, effort and research into this year will be disapointed if things aren't restored to exactly the way it should be. I on the other hand don't really care about this year as much. I'd just as soon fast sim the year, screw who wins. My thinking being that if 2006 is a reoccuring problem(asuming it is just something unique to the 2006 season) then it would be in every ones best interests to get to 2007. All trades that have been made should still stand, but talent dev should be a good with the bad type thing.
I agree that if this is a problem within OOTP that it needs to be looked at by their people. However, I still think that it is worth the time to fast sim the 2006 season past the trading deadline to see if this thing happens again for a 3rd time. As long as we don't fool with doing FA over and the draft (and we shouldn't since he has a backup file for 3/31), then I guess it is okay to start 2006 over (yet again). I just want to make sure that we do our trades though.
Well, here's your word . I emailed OOTP tech support about it. If I get nothing, I'll reload the backup Tomorrow, and we'll resume simming when I get back from break (Sunday afternoon). And Shea Hillenbrand will be deleted
I am in total agreement with Manny. Before we re-start the 2006 season for the 3rd time, lets fast-sim past the deadline to make sure this will not be a on-going problem. If all goes well there then we should re-start 2006. However, being that this has happened twice at around the same time (deadline), it seems like a bug/file problem. I hope I'm wrong. BTW - Heath, per our discussion last night about web-sites that help run a league. www.jpbaseball.com - BOSI or Baseball Online Statistal Interface is a way to keep your league's information, statistics, player information, team information, and all sorts of miscellaneous data needed to keep a league online in a database for easy access to reports and for ease of a league website. I'm not suggesting we use this or anything just wanted to prove Heath worng
If you want to do that I suggest you keep looking. You found exactly what I said you would find, and not anything that could possibly be used by an offline league. Also I don't know how using an outside site would help us that the current site (thanks Castor) doesn't already provide.
It sure does. Buck, I am not too crazy about restarting the 2006 season. I think we should fast sim it at first to see if this problem is going to happen again and once that gets resolved, pick up where we left off (after the trading deadline for the 2006 season). It could be Christmas by the time we reach the 2007 season, lol.
What exactly was the problem? If it was a hnag up around the time of the trade deadline you can work around that. When you get to those days you have to make all teams under human control. After the 31st you set it back normal. THe only problem is that you don't get comp trade offers for the last 3 days before the deadline. But it will get you past the hang up.
Well I guess the crashes did not appear on exactly the same time each time. I think the first time Chuck simmed to one day before the trade deadline. zac gave notice that to get all computer trade offers he would have sim to the exact date, and when he then tried all the player profiles had been totalled. Every profile was the same, and all players were crap, the pitchers more so than the batters, resulting in games scoring in 40+ runs every game. This time it happened after the 7/22 sim. You still think this can be corrected by putting all teams under human controll? If so, what we need to do is to take two backups, alternate from sim to sim, and use the useful one should this problem reaccur after (if) we fix it.
Hmm. THat was never the problem I had. I always got lockups about 3 days before the deadline. It always just locked completely up and I had to shut it down manually. Not sure if human control will fix this.
So I take it that nothing came back from tech support about this? Can you or Heath explain to everyone exactly how Plan B is going to work? I know it is reloading the backup file, but are you simming up to the trading deadline or we starting over at the 3/31 date or doing something else? Are you going to fast sim the 2006 season first to see if this problem happens again? And what about trades? When will they be filled? Sorry to inudate with so many questions, but things are a little fuzzy about what is the next step, at least to me, they are.
Well, this blows. I guess I had gotten pretty into this game a lot quiker than I thought I would. I'm checking the fantasy forum every 30 freakin minutes. I need help.
