Jim Caple at ESPN says, "As it is, this year Vancouver outdrew the Rockets and three other teams that will return to their cities next season. Apparently, that isn't good enough for the NBA." Now those are loyal fans! At least the Grizz didn't disappoint...they were horrible, as usual. Although we didn't make the playoffs, it was a banner year all around. The rebuilding process seems to be going well, the Rocks will be around long-term thanks to the new arena to be built, etc. All things considered, the future looks bright. I for one am excited!!! ------------------ 5..4..3..2..1.....We have lift off! Go Rockets!
Vandy? I thought you meant Vanderbilt, in which case, I would have been amazed. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
Attendance is never the only factor in the decision to move teams. Sometimes, attendance isn't even a factor at all (the Spurs were going to move in 1999 if their arena vote failed even though the Spurs are pretty consistently among the top draws in the NBA). In Vancouver's case, the relatively low attendance was probably a factor, but it was most certainly not the only one. I think the more embarrassing thing for the Rockets (and the Grizz, for that matter) is that the Clippers and the Warriors outdrew them. ------------------ Houston Sports Board [This message has been edited by mrpaige (edited April 16, 2001).]
And, by the way, I could only find two other teams (other than the Rockets) that were outdrawn by the Grizzlies. The Hawks and the Nets. ------------------ Houston Sports Board
