So you're home 24/7 365 days a year to protect your home? You never leave your home and leave something valuable inside?
We have a very large dog that is both a sweet creature and very protective. We also have firearms. I'm not against gun ownership, but we need gun restrictions. Banning assault rifles and large ammo clips, while strengthening background checks and having other national gun laws, like prohibiting selling firearms in a parking lot, would be a start. The paranoia promoted by the NRA that somehow the "evil Liberals will take our guns away!" is a load of crap. A lot of Liberals own guns, go target shooting, and go hunting. The NRA sells that garbage to get more dues paying members, so the chumps that run the organization can take home their 6 figure salaries. Some of you out there need to wake up and smell the coffee. Support common sense gun laws, or someday something so awful will happen that the restrictions on gun ownership will get passed and will be draconian. Wake up, people. President Obama was supposed to take our guns away. What happened? Gun sales increased during his time in office. The fears promoted by the NRA were entirely misplaced.
Does it really matter what the motive was? Should we even pay attention to it? I'm under the opinion that mass shooters should not even be recognized. Their names should never be released and neither should their motives. Pay attention to the victims and their families, give them the media time they deserve if they want it. If the victim families want to know about the killer then law enforcement should give them that info directly.
After the initial shock of what was going on, my next thought went to hoping the "lone wolf" shooter wasn't black or another minority. In this climate, I can't imagine what would have happened next. I mean, I can imagine, but I'd rather not think about it.
The victims families should always be prioritized in events like this. Yet, it's the killer who usually ends up with the most airtime and that's sad.
Yeah, we just went pass the 1yr mark of the West U. shooter without a mere peep from anyone, but for me since I went to school grades 6-8 and rode the bus to H.S with him I cannot help but think of...why? Why did he do that? Everyday...
This idiot, along with his colleagues James Dobson, and the southern Baptist commission are actually some of the most influential people in the country at the moment. They control the Evangelical Christian media that is a huge backing of Trump that continues to support him. This is the crazy sh$& they are preaching today. Yes... “liberals” are to blame... sure. This isn’t everything that’s wrong with our country but it’s a big part of it. Christian con artists like this guy that manipulate religion to seek poltical and financial gain. There are no depths too low for them to go politically in order to get people like Gorsich in the Supreme Court so they can go back to the stone ages. There is a special place in hell for people like Pat Robertson.

I agree. Because I live on some land on the water I've contemplated getting a shotgun with scattershot for snakes/rats. And if they made me wait a couple of weeks for a background check or even listed my on a database, I'd be cool with it. I don't really understand why people would be against either of those things.
Yes, it absolutely matters 'why'. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Without understanding the problem, we in no way have the ability to fix and protect against it happening again. Of course, the motive could be unaddressable, but that doesn't mean searching for it is pointless.
I understand it from a paranoia standpoint. But guns should be treated as a controlled substance. A gun registry could catalog the ownership, sale and transfer of guns. Gun licenses can be renewed every so often years with owners having to show proof of possession for their guns yearly. It'll hold owners accountable for proper safe storage, and I think that would eventually reduce the amount of illegal guns on the market. When there are less illegal guns in the hands of criminals and only law abiding citizens can own them, then the average citizen would be less compelled to own one for protection leading to less guns. It's not a foolproof plan to prevent tragedies like this, though, but it's better gun control than what we have now.
I don't think we'll ever truly ban guns in America. I'd also add ammo restrictions/magazine capacity limits to your post. I still see no useful purpose why I'm able to buy 1000rounds for my AR15 at home with extra 30 round magazines only because I can. What real justification does anyone have to own that many? I only have that many because it was on sale and I split the costs with a buddy but in the end its really nonsense for me to have all that without anyone type of regulation. To gun nuts, I wouldn't even be considered as having enough in my "stockpile". If the law changed to limit magazine capacity/ammo restrictions, I'd happily abide by those.
If you want to prevent things from happening in the future it's nice to know why they happened in the present. And Pat Robertson can just go die already. What a piece of human garbage, but he's been that way for a long time.
If this kind of tragic event happens every day for ten years, you will still have no meaningful gun legislation in this country, that is just the way it is.
that's because others don't agree that gun legislation would stop such events and those who wish for gun legislation make no compelling arguments to suggest otherwise. The 2nd amendment haters keep holding out for this big event that will make their opponents see the light. This is such a lazy and stupid approach.
