When I was a child, I saw a beloved, harmless childrens flim, Song of The South, in the theater.

If you released it today, you'd have riots. I don't think that's a bad thing.

Also, all the Tom and Jerry cartoons shown on TV have the scenes edited out where a bomb explodes in Tom's face and he's shown in blackface as a result. Tom & Jerry blackface isn't "racist propaganda" - the blackface was a socially acceptable joke in its time - but that doesn't mean I think kids should be watching it today.

Again, didn't turn me into a clan member when i was a child and it was even kind of a comfortable cute reoccurring gag, but if it offends enough people, goodbye, & good riddance. An easily replaceable throwaway joke doesn't have have any irreplaceable cultural values.

I live on a street named after a famous fake country from a book written around 1900 by an author nobody remembers (Graustark). Nobody knows what it is anymore.

In 150 years Harry Potter and Pokemon will be forgotten antiquated cultural memes, and a few old farts will be b****ing about it, because their long dead grandparents read the books to them when they were kids.

Throwaway culture is disposable, and is easily replaced when it becomes archaic. I would make a pun about "The March of Time", but it would probably be so archaic, nobody'd get it anyway.

There are better places to plant your flag if you want to start a culture war. Dr Seuss is easly replacable throwaway children's culture.

I think I picked up Go Dog, Go at a garage sale as a kid; other than that it was Peter and Jane, '68 World Book and '69 Britannica, then a lot of Greek mythology.

Never saw any of those black and white old book.

Was listening to one of my kid reading it yesterday. Almost felt asleep with the repeating sound alike words. Great book.

Whether it can be replaced isn't even close to the subject matter at hand.

    Interesting take.

    How many is "enough"?
Who decides how many is "enough"?
    How do you define "offensive"?
    Who decides what is "offensive"?

Are we supposed to be outraged and worried that 197 people think Dr. Seuss books were racist and the nobody should like any Dr. Seuss books?

I not really sure what the complaint is here. That a person was stupid enough to say that Dr. Seuss is racist? Are we really concerned about one person?

Or is the OP's real point to try to somehow say that half the country thinks Dr. Seuss is racist by extrapolating the opinion of one person as representing their political enemies? Hmmmmm.

No... Just the Democratic Party. You know... the party who funds Antifa, has the NFL in its pocket to force players to kneel, and paid for a campaign to make it look like Russia hacked our election because Hillary and Obama were planning on losing apparently.

"I Had Trouble in Getting to Solla Sollew" is by far his best work.

    This.

I don't really see a mass uprising supporting the idea that Dr. Seuss was/is inappropriate for children or offensive.

It seems to be a past time of some conservatives to find some extreme marginalized liberal and use it as a crutch to paint liberals as extreme or insane.... as if all, or hell even a reasonable small percentage of liberals agree with them.

"These books are racist. Please send them to underprivileged schools"

    Sound logic there.

Idiot librarian. This is the same type of situation conservatives complain about when we try to use a crazy conservative's actions as representative of all of them.

One of my elementary art teacher's daughters is a librarian. She posted on Facebook a while back that she had to take the "No Guns Allowed" sign down after a few older patrons advised her they would begin carrying start of the New Year. She was also cold-calling homeless shelters a couple of Fridays ago to help someone who came in near closing time, but they're pretty much booked up due to Harvey.
