The wife and I got back yesterday from an awesome road trip! We had never been to Cooperstown NY to the Baseball Hall of fame, so on Saturday morning we got out the door for the five hour drive to Cooperstown. Let me just say that I’ve been all around the world and States and Cooperstown is just an amazing and beautiful little hamlet in the middle of the Catskill mountains! Hundred year old houses, quiet little streets, beautiful little town square already done up for the holidays! Went to the Hall of fame (baseball fans MUST make the pilgrimage before they die!), stayed in the cutest bed and breakfast you ever saw, went to dinner at a hotel that is over 150 years old that used to be a private club (think “The Overlook” in the shining)! The weather was autumn beautiful, the drive easy and we had a blast! What was your last road trip?
My last roadtrip was a loooong time ago, but I am planning one for this April or May. It will be a weeklong roadtrip that me and one of my blues bandmates will make. We will go from Houston north to West Helena Arkansas to see the Sonny Boy Williamson/King Biscuit sites. Then we will cut over to Memphis for a couple of days. Then down Highway 61 into the Mississippi Delta, stopping along the way in Clarksdale and other locales, then cut over to New Orleans for a couple of days before returning home. Should be fun!
Last road trip was to New Orleans to visit the in-laws... We saw a wreck on I-10 between Houston and Louisiana. the little white papers are business cards from the red truck
Well, I just finished the first part of my current road trip Saturday morning at 10:00. I left Houston at 12:45pm, got to Tyler at 4:00 to meet up with my sister and nieces. We then hit the road for Chicago at 5:45pm and arrived at 10:00am. We'll be leaving at 6:00am Saturday morning so I can get back in time to make it to the Texans' game.
My last road trip was moving from Houston to Albuquerque, although I dont' think that qualifies... I do want to drive to Las Vegas from here which I hope to do next year...
Last road trip was two months ago. In 72 hours I drove 3200 miles to London, Canada and back to Houston to see an ex-girlfriend, leaving only ten minutes after I got there. Worst experience of my life.
Actually, we're taking a road trip from Vermont to North Carolina tomorrow to visit some buddies. Should be fun.
Man, that sounds AWESOME. I live about four hours from Cooperstown, and just never get around to heading out there. Your story may inspire me to make a trip this spring!
Made the 11 hour road trip from Austin to Omaha last year ~ 850 miles. Watched the Horns squeak out a win over the Huskers 27-24, then partied afterwards in the Haymarket area of Lincoln. My buddy and I rented an Oldsmobile Alero for the drive up. Told the people at Advantage Rent-a-Car that we're driving to Dallas for the weekend. We put close to 2,000 miles on the car that weekend, and only paid a total of $70 including all taxes.
My last road trip was in NSW, Australia, from Katoomba to Wollemi National Park. My last American trip was a year ago, from Seattle to Fort Bragg, California. Although, I have been back and forth to Vancouver a few times this year.
I drove from Sienna, Italy to Pisa, Italy to see the Leaning Tower. Upon arriving in Pisa I was involved in a bank robbery. After that was over I drank a bottle of wine for lunch to settle the nerves. Then I climbed the tower, saw the baptistry and cathedral, and let my wife drive us back to Sienna.
Looks like most people are describing a long, or out-of-state, road trip. Do shorter ones count? If so, my last road trip was in mid-October, to Van Horn and Alpine (Davis Mountains area, Nowhere, West Texas). [This doesn't count the really short one in November, to Houston... forgot about that... but it's not that much of a road trip if you just go one place and stay overnight.] My last extended, multi-state road trip was... that funeral thing. I did do a cool one this past summer - went all around the Four Corners (Colorado including Pagosa Springs and Durango; Moab, Utah; three of those national parks in southern Utah everybody always talks about; New Mexico including Taos... nice being up in the mountains). Actually, Taos was an afterthought. I felt guilty about missing research work, but was waiting on a part to get fixed for my machine. I had to send it to Virginia. Well, they kept screwing it up, and when I called from Cortez, Co. (cool place - visit it sometime), the thing still wasn't ready. So I decided, if my instrument part could take an extended vacation, I could too... and on to Taos...
Last "real" roadtrip was 2,305 miles from Oregon to Alaska, which I get to do twice a year. This time around we drove up to Vancouver, ferried over to Vancouver Island, drove to the northern tip of Vancouver Island (Port Hardy), ferried to Prince Rupert and drove the Cassiar Highway, a 400 mile mostly gravel road that connects the BC Coast to the Alaska Highway. Came out on the Alaska Highway at Watson Lake, Yukon, and from there it's an 800 mile straight shot to Fairbanks. Last weekend roadtrip was to Anchorage last month, 720 miles roundtrip, but I do that about once a month so it's pretty much routine.
That should be a lot of fun. Stop by Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero place in Clarksdale and don't forget to go to the crossroads where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil. I was in Oxford last Saturday, but I didn't get a chance to check out Saturday night at the Ground Zero.
to the country town of Renmark (about 250kms away) on the weekend for a mate i went to uni withs wedding crazy croatian wedding with too much petrol tasting spirits consumed.... loads of fun.... aside from the rush back with minimal sleep to coach on sunday morning
A couple of years ago I took my phone off the hook, closed down Outlook, packed the truck and went solo to the west coast. I saw aspects of America I would've never seen by plane. New Mexico, Arizona are just beautiful. BEAUTIFUL. Of course, nothing taste sweeter, or look as fantastic at sunset than the Pacific ocean. One of the best 2 week vacation I ever took. RR
