I think it's criminal. They intentionally knew they would cancel the event, didn't care that they were forcing an education institution to spend a million dollars in security, and wasted many people's time including their followers because they were looking for their event to be canceled so they could play the victim card. Except their event was allowed and they chickened out - not even booking speakers - and then claiming their free speech was taken from them. Fortunately, not even the right wing groups believed him this time, but people like RL will.

Why did the university have to spend a million dollars on security?

Why did they have to spend 600000 on security last week for Shapiro's lecture?

Who's really the problem here? The speakers or the violent protesters?

If the protesters weren't crazed maniacs they wouldn't have to spend millions for security.

I agree with @RocketsLegend - you're not really addressing the real issue here.

Dumbass protesters that necessitate big security spends is a problem. But agitators who only speak to piss people off and inflame emotions are also a problem. Government entities like state universities that have all the requirements of accommodating speech that the government has but also operates in the commercial space like a corporation are also a problem.

This.. I'm very critical of Antifa and how they can't seem to distinguish speech that might be offensive but doesn't advocate violence. Their all or nothing stance that everyone they disagree with is a fascist that should be confronted violently is a big problem.

At the same time people like Yiannapoulous are basically nothing more than professional trolls who are just out there to try to get a rise out of people. It's unfortunate that others are obliging them. Who suffers is the institution and the students.

Berkeley shouldn't be spending educational dollars to pay for security of voices that are not there for academic purposes.
