Pitchers walking in runs. Missed free throws happen a lot more and just aren't worth nearly as much.

    He doesn't care.

This scenario continually comes up: using the bullpen scrubs early in the game, tied or just behind, and people complaining about it.

It's just an extremely inefficient usage of your best bullpen guys to throw them in the middle innings (*in the regular season). Regardless of the score. Too much can change over the course of the game.

The good pitchers should be reserved for the later innings and you just gotta hope the middle relievers can get you there.

In the playoffs, where every game counts, if Hinch wants to throw Devo for the 4th through 6th innings I'm totally behind him.

How's he being a prick? Astros still have quite a few games left and more innings left than can be pitched by good relievers. When Astros are playing well, there are going to be too many innings, plate appearances that are "critical" for just good players to play without burning out team.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing earlier as well as how they basically said Trout is the MVP if he is not hurt this year

Altuve is in a position to win multiple mvps now. He had to get one, to make a name for himself, overcome his lack of recognition and stature, but the others will come much easier now.

Yup, an Astros loss tonight would put Boston 4 games back. A 4 game series to close out the regular season might have some meaning between the teams.

That was pure gravy. I bet they had zero expectations for his non-baserunning offensive skills.

What if they didn't know what they were going to do yesterday? And were hoping today helped?

I agree that it was largely an equivocal performance... nothing gained, nothing lost.

Was hoping for him to be a little sharper (especially if he's going to possibly be used in a bullpen role), but then again, he has every reason to be rusty (which would then have me wondering if they try and work him into more than just one more game before the post-season).

Is a rusty Lance, who's likely not going to start a playoff game, an asset worth keeping on the first round playoff roster... over McHugh?

They do... especially since Boston owns the tie-breaker (so they don't technically have to pass the Astros).

It would be a pretty crappy scenario since the Astros would basically end up playing 6 straight games at Fenway (and 9 straight road games overall).... with a brief trip back to Houston from Sunday-Wedensday, then back to Boston.

Hopefully, that spot is clinched at some point over the next few games... and frankly, if the Indians just aren't going to lose again, I'd rather they just put it away prior to the Boston series, so the Astros don't have to even try to over-extend themselves.

I don't think he's up against McHugh for a spot.

We are probably taking 12 pitchers. 9 of them are clear, 11 if you include Liriano and Greg, after that there is a lot of trash to wade through.

I could be wrong but doesn't Boston still have a chance to catch us
thats why I was wondering why Hinch put in our crappy non playoff relievers when we were up 4-2
