This absolutely did not start during Obama's term or with his Republican predecessor. To get a decent perspective on this, I would recommend you watch the awarded documentary on Netflix called "13th" about the 13th amendment and its impact, if you are serious about trying to understand where the other side is coming from.
It shows the history of the problems of the criminal justice system in our country.
Protests for racial justice have been with us for a very very long time, and African-Americans have been at the forefront. You may or may not be old enough to remember, but Muhammad Ali was one of the most reviled athletes at one time, because he was opposed to the Vietnam war. He was labeled anti-American, too.
I support 100% the call for racial and social justice. If you oppose it, like Trump, then you are on the wrong side of history.
