I like the guy. I think he will be a servicable
    backup center for years.

I like his hustle when he was there
he has been range and hands than Cato.

I think coming off the bench he changes
the Rocket's game. he isn't the inside
presence . . .but he is the mid range threat

was his defense *ss horrible? no.. . . decent
    could be better

I think he could be a nice anchor to a nice
    Second Unit.

A serviceable backup center for many years to come. It's a shame people are so forgetful of what the guy did and go back to the old stereotype since draft day. When he was 100% healthy in regular season games (see November) he was coming off the bench nightly and giving around 8-10 points and 3-4 reb in 15 minutes. Excellent numbers for a backup center in this league, and esp. excellent compared to other available big men in the draft (see Moiso, Pryzbilla, etc.) He'll be around for a long while, and may indeed have a better career than Cato.

Well I remember when we beat the Lakers and he got a round of applause when he fouled out for his efforts against Shaq? Francis even gave him a big hug when he went to sit down. [IMG]

The Cat: you're both right and wrong.

Collier did convince me that he could be a back-up center in this league... probably not worth what we paid for him, but heck... life has its little disappointments.

Problem is, those other two guys you mentioned are probably going to have better careers. Neither of them is as developed as Collier, but are each more athletic and better defenders.

I bet Moiso will actually do the best in the long run... seems like a slightly better version of Carlos Rogers, and I bet he'll either be a super sub or satisfactory starter some day.

Collier will be an NBA backup center for many, many years. Whether or not he will be a Rocket, who knows?

All one has to do is look at the career of Bill Curley, and see that this is not the golden era for NBA big men. If you are 7 feet tall, and can hit a 15 foot jump shot, you are a lock for 10 years.

Jason Collier will become another Greg Ostertag who's going to get punked by Shaq.

Well a backup centr is not exactly what yuou hope to get with a lottery pick (even though we did get another #1 pick in the trade)

Dude, I am sick and tired of hearing complaints about Rudy T's choice of Collier. The next draft is MUCH deeper than the last and there was no player that fit the Rocket's needs.

Also, the Collier pick by itself was NOT a lottery pick. The Collier pick =

    Jason Collier +
1 million in cap savings for trading down +
Milwaukee's first round pick to us.

You may not judge this choice intelligently until we see what we get out of the Buck's pick.

I think Jason has a better chance at starting
    than say Doleac
    [and I like Doleac's game]
I think Jason will be a nice Center
Once he gets abit more durable and not
    fall into Cato Disease

    He has a nice shot.
He is good on the break
He plays adequate defense [He's no Jim McIlvane!!! *input sarcasm*]

You say this as if all centers don't get punked by Shaq at some point. There is no shame in getting punked by Shaq.

Why would you need it? If you actually mean that, sounds more like you're already on it, lol. [IMG] Look at his numbers when healthy. They speak for themselves. He was a very good backup center in the NBA, and looking at the other Rockets potential draft picks, that is quite an accomplishment.

    Cat makes some good points.

Actually, Collier has impressed me considering my original expectations of him. He has had bad luck with the injury bug, but when he was out there in good health, he played well. I wish we had a chance to see more of him, but time will tell.

His skillset is great for the backup center we need in the West, and he has a nice touch from the outside. I think the kid will play hard for us, and put up decent numbers.
