Protesters angrily confronted House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Monday — and she tried in vain to quiet them — about her emerging agreement with President Trump to provide legal protections to young undocumented immigrants.

In a dramatic exchange in her home town of San Francisco, Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Reps. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Jared Huffman (D-Calif.) appeared at an event designed to call on Congress to immediately pass the Dream Act, bipartisan legislation that would enshrine legal protections for hundreds of thousands of “dreamers” into law. But after Pelosi spoke, about 40 protesters walked up to the front of the room and started shouting, taking over an event where Lee, Huffman and other activists had yet to speak.

Good, but won't matter. She loves donor money more than they love anything.

    Okie dokie.

Not sure what there is to discuss?

Pelosi is trying to negotiate keeping the Dream Act the law and some protesters are not satisfied with that.

Is there some deeper meaning to all of this?

I'm not a fan of protest tactics like this. The protestors have a fundamental misunderstanding of both how politics works and how to win people over to their side of the argument. Does Pelosi accept questionable donations and often come across as disingenuous? Yes. Would she likely vote in favor of legislation that protects Dreamers? Also yes.

If these protestors are seeking pathways to citizenship for all illegal immigrants, not just Dreamers, lawmakers like Pelosi are not who they need to target. They need to go after Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan, both of whom expressed interest in pathways to citizenship and overhauls to the immigration system years before the Tea Party paralyzed the GOP. Politicians like Pelosi will likely vote in favor of anything that accomplishes those goals. Protestors like this resemble Tea Party protestors whose extreme, inflexible stances stand at odds with consensus governing and only perpetuate Balkanization of our government.

    Also, the shouting is rude.

It's Pelosi's own fault. When you kowtow to illegals, you embolden them to think they're more important to the political process than actual citizens and voters. Pelosi needs to stop dealing in fringe issues to the detriment of bigger ticket items like health care.
