I don't understand how I can like that Biggie song with Bone Thugs so much and Outkast's album being one of my favorite of all time. And be repulsed by most of the other stuff playing in that video. I mean it's seriously just awful awful awful.
I'm not much of a Biggie fan, but Notorious Thugs is one of my favorite hiphop songs of all time and I realized why a long time ago. For me, it's a) as usual, Bone Thugs add some kind of musical quality with their hooks and chorus. Their style of "how many syllables can I cram into this time period" never ceases to amaze me. Half the time I have no clue what they're even saying, but whatever it is, the delivery is nasty. And then there's b) they took what many consider to be among the greatest rappers of all time and forced him to do their style. Awesome song. Now as for Migos and mumble rap. I usually don't hate on stuff, but man, I have no idea. Most of what they sing sounds like a sentence with a period after every word. It's like "let's just repeat something 20 times" or "take one sentence and stretch it out for about 4 minutes". lol. Lots of incredible rappers/hip-hop out there and somehow mumble rap/gangstas in tropical pirate clothes somehow becomes popular. Smh.

It makes the b****es go crazy. In my book, that's all that matters. Unless I'm tryna feel some real **** like Kendrick or J. Cole.... I have no complaints Edit: ironic
I don't listen to much modern rap but I was talking, more like complaining, to someone about this a few weeks ago. Glad I'm not the only one that realized this.
Putting a euphemism/professional term "triple flow" to it ALSO is missing the point. The STRUCTURE and temp of the music isnt the issue. Its the context ADDED TO that structure thats the issue. That too casual pronunciation/Talk form, along with flimsy topic matter, the "hype man" lazy toss-in words at end of verse .... Sure it all creates a "mood", a feel. And its Kid/Adult/Female friendly with its whimsical elements. But there's a certain lack of substance and character to it all, even when rap has always been lenient with that. Its like taking best parts of 2 Chainz and making a more serious 2 Chainz. And turning it into Pronunciation Olympics. Some rappers are better at it than others. Migos actually has good staccato delivery and flow, good enough on the ears. Desiigner might be the worst music thing I've heard the past 5 years .
I think that was the whole point that gal was making. It's not the use of triplets that's the problem, it's the creative use with it as a tool. They all sound the same because they're copying each other instead of studying what it can do for them as an artist.
The problem are the knockoff artists who kill every new trend. The first time you heard the triplet on Versace, it was different and unique. Now, every two-bit rapper is scrambling to get out his own version. They all sound the same.
